Just back from a European road trip, trying to eat the 'local' food everywhere we went, so wurst in Germany, pasta in Italy, etc. And in France I tried Andouilette 'avec sa moutarde'. Explanation here for those who haven't heard of it: http://unclestinky.wordpress.com/2008/01/14/andoui...

I knew it was made of offal. But I swear to God, it looked (and smelt) like it had already been 'passed' by a Frenchman. vomit

Has anyone else tried this stuff? Or, less likely, liked it?

My OH ordered this last year in rural France in a moment of bravery (well, to be honest we had no idea what it was). The smell was incredibly awful and my, how I giggled as I enjoyed my pork in cider with some local cheese dish, while he gagged and manfully tried to force it down. We still chortle over it.

Tried it. Andouilette de Troyes = Horse cock with foreskin and knob cheese. I shan't order it again.

Conventionally adventurous? I'd rather try dog st than smell that again.

What do you eat for an encore?

You bunch of absolute pussies.

A lot of cheese smells like st too, doesn't stop it being good to eat.

Andouilette is extremely tasty and has a fantastic (bizarre) texture. Well worth a try.

If the smell offends too much, barbecue it and the smell is overpowered with the smoke

Love it, has to be one of my all time favourites.

Sitting in the sun on a summers evening in France with a bottle of wine extra large andouilette and big dollop of dijon. yum

You only have the big dollop of Dijon so that you can't taste the sausage!

You know, here in the 1st world, the invention of the refridgerator isn't generally seen as a bad thing! biggrin

ETA- anyone else eaten something vile just for bragging rights? If so, what was it, and for how long were you ill?

I've eaten tête de veau which is essentially calves head. Although in actual fact, it's basically calves face with the tongue.

Whilst it didn't make me sick, I didn't enjoy it even slightly. Far to gelatinous.

It's just a pate - doesnt really make much difference where the meat comes from IMO

Like all pates, there are good ones and bad ones, and only a small portion of that is what the meat is, 95% is how it's made
