My wife needs to go into hospital soon for a small exploratory procedure - Three days prior to this she needs to have a "low residue" diet. On the very short list of what is allowed, are "creamed potatoes"

Now, we normally have "mashed" but am I right in saying that the two are the same thing?

yes Just put in a little more milk and butter than usual so it's a tad sloppier. yes

Oh - for added richness and calories use cream - hence "creamed".

If you really want to go the whole hog, try mashing first and then pushing the mash through a sieve with the back of a ladle or similar.

Failing that, get one of these

Those are amazing. They take one potato and turn it into a heap several times as large that's practically all air! yes

For the ultimate mashed potato try Rubechon potatoes.

2kgs good mashing spuds
1kgs butter
2 pints double cream

It will kill you as soon as look at you but its divine, utterly utterly divine.

Shredded Boiled Leeks mashed through them or a Spoon or two of Pesto (Red or Green) for me, are my favourites, but I draw the line at Grainy Mustard.

My old man grows thousands of tonnes so I grew up eating a lot, with at least two types of potato dishes at meal times variation is the key.

I did potato and parsnip puree yesterday yum

Boil the veg.
Put in blender with big knob of butter and seasoning.
Blend until very fine puree.
No need for cream with this.

Best way to eat leeks if you ask me, the potato conceals them very nicely biggrin
