For my health, 5 portions a day etc I have a carton on Pinapple, banana and coconut smoothie - very nice it is too. Especially with a double Bacardi chucked in, perfect for a bath lick What non manufacture recommended drinks have you stumbled across?

By the way, in my efforts to recycle I peeped at the bottom to see if it could be made into small children or clouds or something, it says this "if you are reading this, you must be bored. So why not try doing this stuff instead: weed the garden path, disco strut all the way to work, top up the dishwasher salt, go to the park and talk to the squirrels. Go on. Off you pop."

I have a friend who drank an entire carton in a relatively short sitting, gloating that he had now had his five-a-day. This smugness was short-lived, as he began to feel progressively 'wronger' throughout the day, and ended up doing what large quantities of fruit tend to make you do.

Nothing irritates me more than the censored smugness of innocent smoothies. We'll charge you two quid for a couple of mashed up bananas but it's OK, we're your mates really.

They are nice, like the strawberry and banana but they're a bit pricy.

Supermarket ownbrand ones are usually quite good too, or I make my own at home.

Fruit is cheaper. And better for the environment. Bananas and oranges come in their own bio degradable packaging. Apples and pears even have edible wrappers!

Alternatively, if you like your fruit mashed up in a bottle with some milk; mash it up, stick it in a bottle and add some milk.

Sceptic? Moi?

I confess, victim of advertising, but I thought I would try one first, plenty of bananas get scoffed around here. I have drunk a couple of fresh coconut's milk in the past - great for getting things moving. smile

I still recommend chucking a big slosh of Bacardi in it though lick

Actually, I conducted a bit of experiment a while back and found if you buy 3 quids worth of fruit you really don't get much smoothie in comparison.

Yes if you bought say a tenners worth of fruit you'd probably get more than 3 large cartons worth of innocent smoothie but I guess you've got to be drinking smoothies every day for that...

Compared to other drinks they're slightly pricier but in a world full of addiditives and preservatives etc they're not doing too bad and I don't mind paying a couple of quid for one every now and again.

Smoothies can only account for 1 or 2 portions of your fruit per day.... the others have to come from non-mashed fruit and veg

If you're joking, I apologise for being fick and not seeing it, but if you're not, what's that all about then?

be careful with smoothies - blending fruit increases their acidity which can cause problems for those who have weak enamel on their teeth

Just use nice gloopy honey instead. If you use it with just bananas, some vannila ice-cream with with a few drops of almond essence it tastes like maple syrup. Delicious

Absolutely, it needs to be diluted with several measures of vodka or gin to make it safe.

Two quid? that's for the small one right? The cartons are more like £3 and up

If I am working and don't have time for a proper lunch I will get someone to pop out for a carton for lunch, it fills you up like a proper meal but you can down gulps between wandering into the sales office with customers.

I like to make my own smoothies too but as someone said, they do take a lot of fruit, I got some cheap kiwis the other day which made a nice, if a little odd coloured, base for a smoothie.
