Vintage Port - Will it kill me?
Discussion
I opened a bottle of 1975 Delaforce port this evening. It's been in the house for ages and I can't really remamber where or when we acquired it.
Anyhow, when I opened the seal, I found no cork to remove, it appeared to have dropped inside the bottle.
I decanted the liquid into a jug, filtering it through a couple of layers of kitchen roll, The sediment and crud that was left on the paper was very black. I couldn't get the remains of the cork out though.
I just had a sip of the suff, and whilst it tasted okay, I'm worried that if I quaff any more, I'm likely to get a dose of the trots.
Am I worrying unnecessarily, or am I likely to die in my sleep?

On a similar note, I've got some port that I decanted several years ago and forgot about. It's been in a decanter with a glass stopper since then.
Will it still be ok to drink?
If it's a lead glass decanter you might not want to because the port may have leached some lead from the glass. Even if it's a plain glass decanter it will be badly oxidised by now. Will it still be ok to drink?
