Does anyone have a source for these (pref. uncooked). Not to be confused with prawn crackers (though I think they're a variant of them - generally known as krupuk I think) these are denser, browner and spicier. Typically served in Thai restaurants.

I managed to buy a couple of bags from Chinatown in the West End, but would like to get hold of some uncooked for the larder.

If they have a specific name - that would be helpful!

Oh hell, another bloody good food website i'll be spending money on. Usually use Wing Yip for prawn crackers and thai pastes.

ETA - OMG they have all the fresh veg and lime leaves that make a green curry (or any thai curry for that matter) taste SO much better. Oh dear....I feel a thai feast coming on......

Yup - seen them, but they don't have the crackers that I'm talking about. Again, they're not prawn crackers like you'd get in a chinese restaurant.

The ones I bought in chinatown were just called Prawn crackers from Thailand - which wasn't exactly helpful smile

I think they are just the thai version of prawn crackers with a little extra red chilli in the mix which gives them the darker colour. Maybe use more dried shrimp paste as well.

Much nicer in my opinion

Sounds reasonable - they do taste fishier and spicier.

Still trying to find the uncooked ones though....

Well, I found what I was looking for in Chinatown. I've since found that you can buy them online (the uncooked ones):

They're the second ones down made by manora if anyone's interested smile

They taste blinking great!
