... as on cheese, like Brie, goats and camembert...

Do you eat it? Question came to me after I made myself a goats cheese roll, and just used half of one of those small rounds you get in the supermarkets. Left the other half on the worktop - thought nothing of it. Next thing I find that half - or nore specifically the rind of that half - on the landing having had the cheese content eaten by my 2 adorable kittens who are the "Eat anything and if it doesn't agree you just get rid of it" stage, but had discarded the rind for me to eat or dispose of as I wished...

Is it the babies who have it right - leave the rind - or me - eat the lot!!

If your kittens eat anything but still leave the rind, that's a clue...

The only exception IMHO is Port Salut.

Is this an old wives tale told to you from times past?

No, just that the red mesh outer on Port Salut is so thin it doesn't make any difference smile

I enjoy the contrasting textures between the brie & the rind.

I DON'T eat the rind on Port Salut. I would eat the rind on some goat's cheese, Camembert, Brie et al. As I understand it if the rind is a pure white its intended to be edible - if it isn't then its not.

YMMV.

I eat the rind on pretty much any cheese, although thinking about it I cut the rind off parmesan. Dunno why particularly.
