Grilled wild mushrooms
Discussion
Found the first 'Horse mushrooms' (Agaricus arvensis) of the season today.
Cut off the stalks and arrange the caps in a shallow dish, gills uppermost, and drizzle with olive oil and a good grind of pepper and salt.
Chop the stalks finely and sweat them in butter with red onion, garlic and a pinch of thyme. Pile on top of the caps, cover with breadcrumbs and grated parmesan, and grill under moderate heat for 20 minutes or so, until the cheese is browned.
Magic.
Portobello mushrooms from the supermarket will do just as well (they are the cultivated version of the same thing), however there is something very rewarding about finding your own, for free.
NB: Please positively ID any mushroom before you eat it. Certain members of the Agaricus family are poisonous.

this reminds me of the time i tried to do magic mushrooms and i went to hyde park and got some 'magic' mushrooms put about 20 in a kebaba and ate them, only to find myself in A and E 2 hours later almost dying of poisoning
i think its wise to buy mushrooms at the shops than risk picking them in the garden

Oh dear.
Those 'special' mushrooms are very distinctive. No reason whatsoever to suffer poisoning as a result of picking the wrong ones. Just go out hunting with someone who knows what they are doing.
