Years ago I use to love a couple of pints of larger, either at the pub or maybe a couple of cans to wind away the evening. Lately though, and I don't think its me, they all seem to taste absolutely awful, it seems to have coincided with them all reducing the alcohol content. I know Cadbury's have altered the chocolate with palm oil instead of milk now so it wouldn't surprise me if the alcohol companies have all altered their product as well in the name of ever increasing profits.

I'm not just talking about the taste being slightly different, they all seem absolutely vile nowadays. The co-op had some larger's on offer yesterday so I got two bottles of stella and two of Corona just to try, drank the two stellas last night and all day today I've felt pretty awful, but more importantly I was farting all day none stop, not just an average fart but enough to clear a room, multiple times. was absolutely disgusting even if I say so myself and I just couldn't stop. This lasted all the way until about 5PM tonight, I've just drunk the two corona bottles and the farting has started all over again.

You shouldn't feel this bad just of 2 bottle's of larger unless there is something seriously wrong with them should you?

Exactly. There's nothing worse IMO than the garbage sold in a plastic glass to captive audiences at venues, festivals etc. Closely followed by the over-hopped "craft" beers beloved of self-appointed purists.

Larger than what? wink

Anyway.

Personally, I don't touch stuff like Stella / Carling / Corona / Madri / Estrella and such like.

Lager-wise, do try the Polish stuff. For the most part, they have good flavour, lots of "body", and decent voltage of 5%+. Try:-

Zubr
Zweicz
Tyskie

Perla is odd, in that it packs a 6% hit but has no flavour or "mouthfeel".

Mythos is another good one, IMO

Like what though, what can you buy on the way home that isn't slop for a reasonable price? 2 for £5 isn't exactly cheap. The point is though, if I had a bottle or two of stella a few years ago it never caused fellow colleagues to stand outside for at least 5 minutes before now

Any of the mass produced tinned lagers have been dreadful for years. I think dropping the abv has just highlighted it.

I find Krombacher in bottles decent snd also Peroni. The Lidl bottle lager is ok at the budget end.

Tyskie is actually quite nice but always tastes a bit flat. But saying that the others seem to give me a bit of heart burn as well just lately.

Aldi do 6 bottles of something in a green carton for £4.99 which is quite nice but again I get heartburn if I drink too much of it, seems safe on the fart front though.

I'd say the choice of decent beer is the best it's ever been.

I recently subscribed to Beer 25 and get eight cans of really nice stuff each month. That opened my eyes (or taste buds) to the selection of craft beers all the supermarkets carry these days and have found some lovely beers.

The standard stuff the OP mentions has never been top drawer taste wise.

Is lager beer? I drink lager on a hot day, usually one that has a bit more depth but in my book beer is Timmy Taylor’s or London Pride, failing that Tribute or some other decent IPA.

Partial to a good pint of Guinness in colder weather, but that’s stout. Beer is ale, lager is lager, stay sharp.

PS what happened to mild?

Sam Smith's is the answer

Organic lager is lovely and the mild is cracking. Love the extra stout aswell

But our taste buds are all different, so what you may find rubbish I may enjoy. Also our taste buds change over time.

lf the big brewers are to be believed when they centralise brewing they strip back the water to be just pure water then add back in the "impurities" as they were at the original brewing site.

Having said all that, yes I do think most beers have changed over the last 20 years.

Mythos was good IMO when it used to be imported, now brewed in Northampton frown
