Am I being an unreasonably grumpy old git?

Took the family out for mothers dinner today at a chain of restaurants known for meats.. steak in particular.

Ordered the "full rack of ribs"(1/2 rack was an option)

What came was a 2 small racks of 4 and 5 ribs respectively

Last time I checked, pigs have more than 18 ribs....

Reading up- a full rack of ribs sold by a butcher is typically 10-13 ribs...

Seems to me that if you carve 4/5 rib racks- you can get 3 "half racks" from each set of ribs

In the interest of marital harmony and not "being that family" to cause a scene- I didn't raise it at the time, and the moment is now gone

So.. am I being a grumpy git? Or am I right to wonder where my missing ribs went?

..to cap it all off.. they were pretty "meh" anyway....

Did the waiter have a load of sauce smeared around their boat race?

In the UK most “full racks” are 12-13 ribs as they are meant for consumption by one diner. Not sure I would buy ribs from where I am assuming you went. Steak or go somewhere else in that place. Unlikely to be overnight smoked etc

Chain restaurant = portion control rules, what's the least they can do and maximum price they can ask for it.

I recall a pub in Vienna sold ribs in 0.5, or 1m sizes

I had the 0.5m, I did not count the ribs, but I was darned fulled when I finished.

Got to say I'd be disappointed if 2 small racks turned up after ordering the full rack option

We live in a world whereby its ok for companies to market one thing and deliver another.

By not raising it with the restaurant you've propagated the situation.

As a nation we need to speak up.

Raising it won't really help as they just serve what comes in from Brakes Bros in those vac packs.

If more people complain, they won't order that menu item from them.

Or, they underordered despite it being Mother’s Day and cut the racks in half.

I think I might have gone to the same chain as you (girlfriends choice as usually I avoid). Got £20 knocked off the bill for poor/slow service… waited 1.5 hrs. Just proved my point anyway, won’t be going back! Will stick to the fancier independents.

We went out with a mate and his girlfriend a while ago. She ordered half a chicken and it arrived without a leg. She is rather outspoken, so had a long conversation with the manager about how the chickens they buy appeared to be legless laugh

Maybe it was the top half of the chicken?
