I got bought 3 chuckling cheeses for Xmas, which were wrapped up in a cardboard box along with the pouch that is used for transit to keep foods cool in the box for a day or so.

The box was wrapped up, held for some time, then given to us and put under the tree 3 weeks before Xmas. All the cheeses (3) say store below 5 degrees. However 2 are wax wrapped in circies, and one is wrapped in what looks like a decently robust vacuum pack. I thought they would be ok but my wife says I will be mad to eat them.

Whaddya reckon?

Open them and use the sniff test.

Have you opened one up?
Unless the tree is in a very warm place then I’d guess they’ll be ok. One way to find out, but I’d try if it looked edible.

I used to keep my Christmas cheese in the a cupboard for a month before eating it. Obviously unrefrigerated, so it matured more. Yours is a couple of days old and you’re worried?

Will be nothing wrong with them.

But...If you want reassurance...make cheese on toast...

I would expect massive farts and weird dreams. Trust me.

Gordon Ramsey talks about this in this video 41 seconds in

I think there is second question about blue cheese later on in the video too.

4 weeks unrefrigerated minimum.

But I don't know if the fact that are sealed makes a difference.

I’d eat them if they looked and smelt ok. Mind you, I did eat some Turkey today from Christmas Day so I have form for that kind of thing. hehe

I think the sealing helps with preservation. Open, sniff, and if no mould, ooze, or worms, eat.

So I emailed the cheese company and they said the cheeses should be refirdgerated on receipt. So clear as mud.

With respect, they'd be mad to say anything else!

I also got some wax coated cheese truckles in a wrapped present. It was in my house unrefrigerated for 24 hours, don't know where the giver had kept it. They're in the fridge now, I fully intend eating them.
