Best 'takeaway' oven pizza?

Which is, in your opinion, the very best oven pizza which most closely replicates a takeaway pizza? Can be from any supermarket chain or food store of your choosing. Frozen or chilled.

I'm talking about a heavy, thick, doughy, classic or stuffed crust, fully loaded, moist, oily, pizza from the likes of Dominos, Papa Johns, or your local kebab shop. The sort of takeaway pizza that makes the cardboard box go transparent during delivery.

None of this thin, dry, crispy, Italian nonsense.

I have tried various 'takeaway' oven pizzas, and whilst some have been better than others, I have still been left wanting. My biggest complaint is that they tend to go somewhat dry or stiff during cooking, not fully replicating the wet floppy feel of a genuine takeaway pizza. This is despite experimenting with cooking times and temperatures.

Your suggestions please.

Crosta & Mollica ready-sauced base, loaded up with grated mozarella (the hard variety) and a full packet of peperoni. Filth.

I think that would fall into the "thin, dry, crispy, Italian nonsense" that the OP doesn't want.

These are pretty good, I agree.

I have had those before, and they are really nice, if I'm in a thin/crispy/Italian mood.

But in this case, I want the closest to a Dominos/Papa Johns/kebab shop classic style pizza.

I find that whichever supermarket pizza you get, you have to 'dress it up' a bit in order to get a takewawy style experience. So I usually add extra cheese and then a generous drizzle of olive oil over the top, to really get the grease flowing.

Morrisons' freshly-made jobbies, the ones they make in-store. They have a decent range or you can customise and have whatever combo you want.

I sometimes customise them biggrin

Like you I add a bit of grated cheese, maybe some grated parmesan, sometimes anchovies or olives etc.

But I have never tried drizzling olive oil over the top.... Great idea. Thanks for that tip!

I have recently discovered the 'hack' that they sell a plain (base and tomato sauce) pizza for half the price of one with cheese on it, so you can add all your favourite toppings that no-one else likes (capers and anchovies etc).

I usually buy the Lidl stonebake ones and add extra mozzarella, sliced chorizo and mushrooms, then drizzle a couple of teaspoons of my home-made chilli oil around the edge crust. Goes down a treat.

Saw the title, instantly thought this.

Not sure why, but the Morrisons counter ones are just that bit better than Tesco/Sainsbury etc...

Someone in the workshop here is a big fan of the ASDA fresh pizzas, although I can't comment personally as I don't shop there.

All these shop bought options are ok for home, but a proper Italian pizza is a real thing of beauty, much nicer than the American pizzas from the fast food places.

Depends.

At times, there is absolutely nothing better than an 'American style' pizza from a fast food takeaway. A proper thick, sloppy, greasy, doughy, fully loaded job. A thing of beauty.

I love Italian pizzas. I've eaten them all over Italy, from fantastic UK Italian restaurants, and I love making them myself in my own wood-fired pizza oven.

But right now, I demand a filthy dirty pizza. Not some fancy pants thin and delicate Italian item!

I would usually go and just get one from Dominos or Papa Johns, but sometimes with a busy life and young children, it's easier to get a few from a supermarket and stick them in the freezer for the odd occasion.

I think it only depends if you can't get an Italian pizza, the thick heavy American fast food ones are just that, thick and heavy. Also Italian pizzas are anything but fancy, they are basic but at the same time really good, American pizzas are the opposite.

We love the choose your own toppings pizzas. Stupidly cheap too. I try and be extra nice to the person making the pizza too, on the offchance they give me a bit more topping laugh TBF, they have my deepest sympathy as our nearest Asda is in Bedminster (IYKYK).

The frozen Chicago town ‘takeaway’ stuffed crust ones are quite domino/pizza hut esque if that’s what you fancy.

Just don’t look at the salt content or calories.
