Picked up bottle of this earlier,it looked like the original recipe Version which was being sold here not long ago
Anyway it's not and contains acerulflame K , but on the back of the bottle is says ''No artificial flavours or colours ''
How is that possible then?

Because that’s not a colouring or flavouring?

Artificial sweetner flavouring, how's it not a flavouring

I think you know what it means. It sweetens it, it doesn’t contribute to the fruit flavour.

You can argue all day about whether flavour includes sweetness but clearly it doesn’t for the purpose of that messaging.

Unfortunately for me I sometimes get bad reaction to these evil sweetners ,in this case quite bad. now chucked it down the sink so can't be drunk by mistake again

its been crap for years.

the syrupy delight of our youth in the 90's and 80's is long gone.

sometimes people on here recommend alternatives. some are ok, but most are crap and none a patch on the sweet goodness of original ribena. amd there all pricey.

the stuff in cartons is slightly better than the cordial, but probably the same and psychosematic or whatever.

don't get me started on the glory that was proper strawberry, orange and apricot or the delightful forest fruits in a carton.

thanks jamie, thanks fat people who feed their kids non stop ste.

Ribena is fking filth now however fret ye not, help is at hand.

https://shop.mrfitzpatricks.com/collections/fruits...

100% artificial sweetener free and as thick and gloopy as Ribena and much nicer.

A bit on the pricey side but a bottle lasts me a couple of weeks.

All the other flavours are ever bit as good.

Oh might have to try this one then or just make my own...yes unfortunately ribena vile disgusting filth only fit for the drain now, a bit similar to a few others which have changed in recent times...maybe there is a loophole with cold drinks with the sugar tax as one example Starbucks coffee is loaded and still sell them for £1

Ribena production uses over 90% of the UK’s blackcurrant crop every year.

What a waste of blackcurrants . just looked up sugar tax exemptions fruit or milk based drinks seem to avoid it, maybe they just needed to add more fruit content

Yep its utter filth the UK stuff these days, like most other UK soft and fizzy drinks, ruined by the Govenment.

Anyway my solution is to buy imported full sugar stuff, it'll cost you, but worth it.

https://nordicexpatshop.com/ENG/ribena-blackcurran...

A single bottle works at over £23 posted, about £17 in delivery costs, so i get 3 at a go, still £13 a bottle, but thats the cost of sugar tax frown

Not trying to be that guy but as someone who also reacts badly to sweeteners etc why are you not checking ingredients properly? The sugar tax has been around a while now and has sufficiently ruined everything with the exception of Coke and Cherry Coke and a few cordials/squashes (Rocks in now my goto) really this shouldnt have been a surprise.

If you want something fizzy then look for a local Nisa or similar, they usually stock the US versions alongside the UK ones, the US ones don't have the sweeteners in them

If you have a European or Expat shop near you, see if they have Karvan Cevitam. The Cassis (blackcurrent) one is good, but the bosvruchten (fruits of the forest) and aardbei (strawberry) ones are fantastic. Nutritional info says 62g of sugar per 100ml.
