O’Neills branch on Wardour Street, Soho has been raising its drink prices every evening, by implementing a £2 surcharge on pints ordered after 10pm
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/lo...

Surely this is just going to cause people to buy a couple of drinks each just before 10pm.

21:50...

"7 pints of lager please, anyone else having anything, or just me?"

What could go wrong.

This has happened in nightclubs since the dawn of time. Free entry before 10, £1 drinks etc… 11pm arrived and it’s £5 drinks and paid entry everyone buys 3 drinks at 10:50.

Just like a bar when I was on holiday, everyone got their drinks in during happy hour.

Was recently in a London Mitchell and Butler pub (owners of O'neills) and was surprised by just how cheap the drinks were, £3 till 8pm.

Hadn't seen a happy hour since before covid.

That and Waxy's are my goto pubs when in London (thankfully rarely now). O'Neills has some fun bands but I recall paying a tenner for one vodka a while back (and 'cheap' vodka at that). Guess I won't be going any time soon!

Surely you have proved you are not price sensitive by drinking in Soho in the first place.
Last pint I bought was £1.99 in Glasgow

No happy hours in Scotland either, since the SNP banned them, along with all other forms of happiness, naturally. The pubs around here do operate a Monday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday pricing policy on some drinks though, that’s pretty much the limit of what the law allows.

I can't think of where to go around there at that time, we usually end up in there after the other local pubs have shut.

I once visited that pub on an evening when there was a Sing-a-long Sound of Music event taking place in one of the nearby theatres and the pub was full of nuns.

Says that closes at 11:30pm, we usually end up in O'Neils about that time, often after eating at Little Korea then drinking Guinness in The Devonshire.

That's not the same. Those £1 drinks were discounted, then put up to their normal price. These robbing s are already overcharging then adding a surcharge on top.

If I was in a bar that did this, I'd be walking out when I was told the price, but in reality, we all know they'll just present you with the contactless machine in such a way that you can't see the price when you present your phone. fking greedy scumbags.

They've done this in Dublin for as long as I can remember, fitting it's happening in Oniels.

Happy hour/surge pricing is illegal in Scotland.
No multi buy deals either. So no 3 bottles of beer for £5 etc
A promo price has to be available for a full 72 hours. So all day friday, saturday and sunday.

I agree with all of the above, it's quite scummy and underhand. it's not something would expect in a pub. I wonder how spaced out and visible these signs were? Who's going to take the time to read something while they're waiting for a drink in a busy pub.

the whole thing needs nipping in the bud. Makes me think of some of those nightmare tourist trap bars that try to pressure people into buying an expensive beer with no listed price.
