None in Aldi, Morrisons, Asda or Sainsburys.

Is this an Isle of Wight shortage or global?

I want to make a 10 person chilli and thought dried beans might be the way.

I find myself resorting to Amazon for a lot of dried pulses.

I'm nowhere near an Indian grocer and supermarkets don't sell the varieties I want.

Surprised you can't get kidney beans though.

Saw KBs in Tesco this afternoon, but in tins.
I love the things.

Tescos, Sainsburys and Morrisons all do them. Look in the "ethnic" or "world foods" section.

Not quite sure why you would bother going to the effort of using dried though?

any black/indian/etc shop will have them. as others have said, world food section in any supermarket.

but why not just get canned? red kidney beans are a little overrated IMO, unless you're going for some kind of ready meal/school lunch verison of chili con carne. I much prefer a mixture of red, haricot, pinto, black, barlotti, red. All of them can be found in canned form. some of them can be found dry in sainsburys

I wanted dried because I want a big load to make 10 lunch portions for work.

Its a lot of tins! I thought a big bag of dried would be a saving.

There will be a big saving, also less salt depending on how you cook it.

I'm sure you already know, but soak, rinse and boil first to get rid of the lectin.

Exactly.

I take hot food to work for lunch and make big batches, the bigger the batch the better.

So a large qty of dried kidney beans would suit!

A 1kg bag of dried beans in Morrisons is 2 quid, same price as 4x400g tins cooked and ready to use.You probably only need 3 tins for 10 portions.

You'd also have a lot of dried beans left over.

Morrisons on the Isle of Wight dont stock them.

1kg of dried beans is 3kgs soaked.

I want to make a chilli that is mostly bean.

So I still think dried is best for me, if I could find the buggers!

In response to all those saying 'use tinned", dried beans (kidney or otherwise) have more flavour and a better texture. So long as you don't overcook them.

Tinned beans are OK, but the only advantage is you don't have to soak them. There isn't much difference in price.

OP, Asian/Turkish/African food stores usually sell dried beans, as do most supermarkets. Maybe not on the IOW though by the sound of it. Pick some up when you next visit the mainland?
