Green pesto from shop-recommendations?
Discussion
Hi, might be a strange one but looking for some suggestions for shop bought green pesto. I know it's easy to make at home hut with different work shift schedules it's difficult to always be organised. We have tried few but fins that many are too sour (we have checked they are in date and stored as per instructions).. So any suggestions please.. Thanks

Looks decent for Pesto Linguine. The Waitrose one above is 53% basil and uses ev olive oil and 7% pine kernals.
Shopping for food based on “looks” rarely works out well.

now odd chap as i am i have an excel with various pestos (or what are called pestos as most are nothing of the sort, but thats a different color horse completely...)on it and if there liked or not...as eate it infrequently from shops so always forget whats rank and what isnt.
ignoring all the make your own stuff, then the belazu i find grim, although most of their non genovese 'pesto's' are good, shout out for the rose harissa one.
of the greens the list says sacla and fillippio berio are not great but ok in a non traditonal sense, but the barilla , both the plain and the rocket is nice, albeit very salty, although from memory to call them pestos is a stretch given the texture really isnt a pesto texture. i also have lidl and aldi on there from weekend supplement recommendations but both crap imo.
i was in lidl at weekend trying to find some more biere monaco's with no success, but spotted 2 types made by Polli, so always keen to try an actual italians companies wares, i got one of each, but yet to try.
incidentally the best shop bought i ever had was years ago from either B&M or home bargains, it was again an Italian brand limited run import (not one of the italian brands that sell here normally) but never recalled what it was or what it looked like and never seen it in there again, both that i would know what i'm looking for after so many years.

This thread has inspired me to get around to making my own for the first time.
How long does it realistically last in a jar in the fridge? Wonder if I make enough to keep for a while, or maybe just enough for whatever I'm going to cook.
Not long. A day or two. Best to only make what you need for one meal. How long does it realistically last in a jar in the fridge? Wonder if I make enough to keep for a while, or maybe just enough for whatever I'm going to cook.

You know how somethings, when homemade there is joy compared to shop bought, bread, cakes, gravy spring to mind. Pesto falls more into the homemade pickled onions or custard category, its such a small improvement over the right shop bought its not worth the effort. How long does it realistically last in a jar in the fridge? It also negates pestos biggest use, for me, as a store cupboard thing, something to knock up a quick meal from.
