Afternoon

I have my yearly pilgrimage to cromer coming up which I always look forward to. Especially a pint or two in the red lion.

Anyway pre children we used to get lunch at upstairs no1. Now I have two moaning children it isnt really worth the premium to go there.

For a few years we then went to mary janes which is absolutely fine and no complaints, but it does get busy. I recall someone mentioning a year or so ago on here there are apparently much better fish and chips available in that area but i cannot recall where and nothing has been yielded by searching.

Happy to drive a little way within reason.

Any recommendations for traditional fish and chips around there?

Drive over to Sheringham, try Dave’s. We always go there on the first night of our holiday. Good quality, large portions. Good restaurant attached, although be prepared to queue for the takeaway.
Enjoy!

frenchs chippie in wells is meant to be good, per the weekend supplements, never tried it as don't get up that way much now.

French's in Wells-next-the-sea is one of the best in Norfolk, IMO. We always try to pay a visit when we're in the area.

Sit and eat them on the harbour but beware of the bliddy gulls!.

We tried No.1 last year (albeit the restaurant) and it was superb! When we were in Cromer last week, it was fully booked frown When we visited Wells, we were there at 10.45am and they were already queuing outside French’s. Sadly, I wasn’t allowed to have fish and chips again, so couldn’t tell you what it’s like, but IMO, anyplace that has a queue like that, so early, must be worth a visit.

That logic doesn't work in this region!

See Aldeburgh f&c and its sister..awful stuff these days yet the idiots from London still queue up for it.

Edit or any tourist region, as Ricky Steins f&c is equally is crap yet the emmets lap it up to much amusement.

If you’re prepared to risk a trip south to Great Yarmouth…
We had lunch in The White Swan and it was without a doubt by far the best f&c i have ever had 😀👌🏻
