Pasties!

We're off to Cornwall for a week in June, and whilst down there we want to sample the best Cornish pasty.

This will be Mrs. O's first visit to Cornwall, but my third visit, and the last time I was there I stumbled across a bakery in Hayle (can't remember the name of the bakery) whose pasties were off the chart good. But that was over 20 years ago.

Any recommendations for where to go for the best Cornish pasty?

Rowes, from Truro I think, available all round Devon and Cornwall. I always get one when I see one.

If you are in Padstow, there is a Pasty shop by the harbour... big & delicious.
( Loads of fillings to choose from).

The Quay Bakery in Polruan is worth a detour - best pasties Ive had.

Some branches of ASDA stock Rowe's products in their fresh bakery section. Thankfully one of mine does (ST7 postcode)

The factory that makes the Rowes pasties is in Penrynn Industrial estate below the university, very useful place to know of as an impoverished student as they sold them there too!

Also in Falmouth, there was a pasty shop opposite side of the square from Wetherspoons (The Steam Packet?). Best fresh pasties I've ever had.

More rural, the village by King Edward's Mine museum, they have fresh pasties in their post office/bakery. Also very good

Seconded. My go to place when down there.

As for Rowes, no ta, you can get them in your local Tesco these days, a bit like Ginsters

Yes, i was shocked last year when i pulled in to grab a couple of "take-homes" to find the shop closed.

Yeh, don't get any mass produced ones!

Best bet is from a small bakery / deli or something, it will be obvious they are hand made...

I had a good one in Fowey "Kittows of Fowey" butcher....

+1 I've tried most of the online suppliers (also the Devon ones) but Phillips is my go to especially as they do shortcrust as well as flaky.

I am a little unorthodox when it comes to a Philips pasty, I have flaky mince! I quite like the mince they do rather than the steak.

Etheringtons are definitely my top choice at the moment, likely and peppery!

I couldnt tell you which bakery it was from but I had a very nice Chicken pasty in St Ives last September.
Sat on a stripy deckchair on the harbour side in the sun to consume it.
Think the deckchair was £1 for the hour.
