Hi mumsnet.

Recently I’ve noticed mywaitrose vouchers being really crap.
Firstly it keeps telling me no vouchers are available this week, then it gives me 2 vouchers for something I’ve never bought, nor want, like dog food when I’ve never bought pet food before.

Used to get relevant vouchers for things I actually bought, and 4-6 of them to choose from.

Just me or anyone else getting this too? I did contact waitrose on Twitter, they basically said “our terms and conditions allow us to do this”

Apart from the free paper they are pretty terrible, I moaned once too and got a reply saying if you want vouchers for more money then you have to spend more.

I get a choice of two vouchers out of six, to use each week. All of them are stuff that we buy on a regular basis.
You are only able to use two each week and they seem to release the new ones on a Wednesday.

That’s what I used to have, but for the past month, I’ve just been getting this saying no personalised vouchers available.

I miss the good old days when you could use the £2.50 biscuit tin voucher on anything, didn’t matter what you bought.

I had the same problem earlier this year. Shop told me to ring Waitrose central. They were no more help than the shop as the IT team hadn't told them anything other than "it'll be fixed next week" which in fairness it was. Obviously fix didn't work for long as the problem has now returned, presumably for everyone.
I won't bother to ring again.

I do my weekly shop at Waitrose so I get a selection of about 6 or 8 vouchers to choose from and I can select 2.

My "m-i-l" has the app and wasn't receiving any vouchers and when she made enquiries it was because she wasn't shopping there regularly (think she only popped in occasionaly for milk and such like). What their FAQs say is that you have to regularly swipe your myWaitrose Card to build up your purchase history.

I occasionally get weeks with no vouchers, but normally it's mainly for things I have bought. I'm not a regular Waitrose shopper either as I bounce around the various supermarkets near me. Only thing is I will buy something that will last me 6+ months then get a voucher for that product ....

Regardless of the vouchers it's a terrible app !
The Coop one is much easier as you choose your vouchers and then when you scan the card it automatically uses them. The Waitrose one you have to scan your "card" and then each individual voucher. The ladies on the till are always very friendly though.

Yeah, it's a pain having to scan the vouchers and not have it done automatically.

It was good at one point. The vouchers are usually a range of 50p to £2 off, and you could guarantee that I never needed the item that was £2 off. However, until relatively recently, the voucher didn't cross-reference with the items in your basket. Therefore you picked the two most expensive money-off coupons, regardless of whether you were buying them or not, and got the money off. A shop assistant told the m-i-l that one.

Unfortunately they got their act together and they've put a stop to it - you have to be buying that item to use the coupon.

There's an 'Overheard in Waitrose' group on Facebook - people posting (sometimes) funny stuff they have (allegedly) heard said by punters in Waitrose, it does have its moments from time to time.

There was a serious thread on there about vouchers on there the other day, in amongst people chiming in with "I let my butler handle those" the overwhelming majority of people were saying that the voucher scheme has gone down the swanny and very little benefit to be had from it. It's the same with the Waitrose credit card - we put about 800 quid a month on our card and used to get a reasonable amount of JL vouchers in return but it's now so derisory I don't even bother.

I think all supermarkets are the same nowadays, Tesco are about to/have recently massively reduced their Clubcard benefits. It's now all about separated pricing dependent on whether you have the card or not, which is the price of selling your data to them.

In Sainsbury's you end up with the daft situation where the Nectar price of an item can be less than the reduced yellow sticker price for something that's about to go out of date. Why spend more for a short dated item?

Yep & that was up until recently, shame they plugged the loophole.

It was always a good feeling on a Wednesday when the new vouchers showed in the app & there were 2 £2 off vouchers, £4 off that days shopping . . . smile

I can get a voucher every day for a paper from the website, at £3 a day and more on Saturday and Sunday it’s the best voucher they do,

sorry how do you get that, i see nothing in the app and a cursory google references a mumsnet article from 2023 that mentions a 3rd voucher for a paper in the app, but cant find an other info.

I spend £16 a weekend on papers so would be useful to find out!

thanks

If I open the website on my phone and go to my Waitrose loyalty and then vouchers, my selected two vouchers appear and if I scroll down from there the newspaper vouchers are directly below. It is already set to the paper I buy so I must have chosen that paper at some point.

Aha! Lightbulb moment.

I've never knowingly bought a newspaper from Waitrose, but I've just selected the Socialist Worker as a 'favourite' on the app - I read widely - and will see what happens.
