The Champagne Company
Discussion
Firstly, not sure if this post is in the right place, or even within the rules. If not, apologies.
The Champagne Company is an internet retailer we've used many times in the past to have nice champagne sent to people and it's been fine. Unfortunately, in the past couple of months they've failed to send out orders, blaming their suppliers, then shipping delays, then courier problems then finally admitting the products were never in stock after all (despite what it said on their website) and promising a refund, and then - after a few weeks - it finally dawns on us that the refund isn't going to arrive either.
Thinking it was just this order that had gone awry, I did a bit of digging and found that there are a *lot* of unhappy customers who've lost money. If you look at their most recent reviews on Trustpilot, you'll see the scale of the problem.
They no longer answer their phones, their premises are closed up, and emails just get an automated response - but the website is still live, and still taking customers orders (and money!) right now.
It looks very much like a company on the brink of collapse, trying to harvest as much cash as possible before the inevitable. While some might think people buying fancy champagne can afford to lose some money, please bear in mind most of their customers will be people who don't have a lot of spare cash but wanted to celebrate a really special occasion or send a nice gift to a love one. It's obviously coming up to Valentine's day, where I suspect a lot of people will be placing orders and losing their money. I'd really like to try and stop too many more people being ripped off if I possibly can, hence this post.
Obviously all us powerfully-built director PH types will routinely order our cases of champagne from Berry Bros or Fortnum's, but just in case anyone was thinking of placing an order with this outfit, maybe think again.
