Is this a weird fetish of mine, paper cups?

Cold drinks taste better to me out of a paper cup than glass. I now buy paper cups just for use in the house.
Is this wasteful / criminal or do I have a point?
Yeah it’s a bit weird. Is this wasteful / criminal or do I have a point?
Glass is a great inert material for use as a drinking vessel. No flavour or odour transfer when drinking.
Paper cups generally smell of the paper, printing ink and plastic coating used in the manufacturing process. They always have a subtle solvent whiff about them.
On public drinking fountains, I do prefer those conical paper cups to plastic, but definitely not over a proper glass or ceramic cup. Those paper cups are preferable to stainless steel and aluminium as well. I brought a bottle of sparkling water in a fancy aluminium bottle, it didn’t taste right.
No, you're just wrong.
Structural rigidity is compromised in comparison with glass.
Paper, print and glue can leach.
Thermal properties, paper not very good a keeping drinks cool.
Aesthetics, never looked at a paper cup and thought …
The only choice IMO for cold drinks is glass.
Is it perhaps an emotional connection?
I dislike milk in coffee and egg sandwiches, except for picnics when they are essential; because this has an emotional connection to my childhood.

You weirdos.
Just need the guy who likes his vodka stored in Tesco own brand cola bottle and we got the set.
But surely there is a point to that, if you want a cheeky swig on public transport for instance?Just need the guy who likes his vodka stored in Tesco own brand cola bottle and we got the set.
Milky instant out of a thermos on a camping or hiking trip is tremendous. Wouldn’t touch that stuff at home. Likewise just eating beans, sausages and toast. Cooked on a camp fire, amazing. At home, not so much, sort of given up on life type food. Context matters!
OP, did you try a bamboo cup? Sort of has the same ‘warmness’ as a paper cup? Or if you drank out of a wooden chalice type thing, you could pretend you were Jesus, perhaps live for ever, well according to the Indiana Jones movies anyway.

I suspect you are subconsciously associating this with some particular cold drink you have really enjoyed. I have a few similar things - red Nescafe cup for coffee, a particular spoon for ice cream and restaurants in France with those red and white checkered table cloths.

Fish & chips taste better straight from the paper wrapping than if you served it on a plate.
I used to think that, but I think it’s more to do with them usually being fresher as you’re eating them at the chippy rather than travelling home. Our local chippy (just won Uk best fish & chips), has an eat out and restaurant. The eat in experience and taste is definitely better.
I find those awards a bit BS. I tried a couple of ‘bests’ but once fish and chips reaches a certain standard, that’s it. There are 3 chippies within a 30 min drive of me that all meet it. Biggest common denominator is they fry your fish to order. But agree, can’t beat it straight out of a fryer, onto your plate in the restaurant. Beef dripping adds an extra dimension too.
OP, would you think that the fish and chips tasted better off a paper plate rather than a ceramic one?
