Just split up with my girlfriend so adapting to single life. Minor issue but I have no use for milk, she used to have milk with coffee so always had a bottle in the fridge. Most people have milk in coffee/tea so I'd want to accommodate that when anyone comes round.

Is there an acceptable milk substitute that I can keep in fridge/cupboard? Seen powdered stuff which would be ideal but assuming it's pretty nasty.

Just buy a pint of milk when you know people are coming.
Make a white sauce for your dinner when they leave.

If that's your biggest problem after a breakup then you are doing well mate hehe

Any 'long life' version of milk tastes like st, and will not be appreciated by any unexpected visitors anyway. So as above, just buy a pint when you expect someone over. Or get a coffee machine with pods, I think you can get white tea pods

This is what I do when tradespeople are in the house.

UHT and powdered stuff is unpleasant.

You can freeze milk. It takes a while to defrost (put the bottle in cold tap-water - don't heat it) but it tastes perfectly normal once thawed.
For emergency tea or coffee you can freeze it in an ice-cube tray.

I use skimmed uht in my tea, nobody can taste any difference. It does eventually go off though, just takes weeks.

My other half is lactose intolerant, so I don't buy normal milk anymore. We get the Arla lacto free stuff. Looks and tastes the same as normal milk but a much longer use by date life.

Buy filtered milk and freeze in 75ml quantities.

1 will be enough for tea and 2 will do coffee.

Get out of freezer a couple of hours before anyone comes round and you will be sorted.

If its still slushy put in microwave for 30 sec to thaw it. Might take 2 x 30.

If you buy filtered milk there will be very little in the way of bad stuff in the milk so it will freeze better and also re-heat better too.

I don't drink milk and therefore don't have it in the house.

Always have cans of soft drinks though.
