Would Scotts be the place to book, or is there better?

Many thanks.

For the occasion in question, small plaice, mushy peas and a gherkin isn't going to cut it

Scott tends to be the go-to place for fine dining with seafood and is hard to fault I think. J Sheekey is the other one that tends to come up fwiw.

I have approval from my manager that I may take her to either for her birthday.

Votes for each of Scotts and J Sheekey please chaps:

Scotts.

J Sheeky isn't in Mayfair, but that is nit picking. Good, but more boozy fish lunch than birthday date.

Froggy alternatives with good fish in local area...

LPM
Maison Francoise
Saint Jacques has the most stunning outdoor seating in a tiny square (behind Berry Bros ) but may not be available. At Christmas it is like something from a Richard Curtis film, so pretty.

Scotts is excellent. Nathan outlaws place would have been a good shout too however is closed a while back unfortunately.

Never been to sheekys but it's always busy. It is however in the middle of a very busy area in the west end. That might either float your boat or otherwise.

I think Scott's would be the more impressive experience of the two

I've just been looking at reviews on Tripadvisor and both J Sheekey and Scotts get some ropey reviews. Which echoes the last time I went to Bentley's, which was really not great whilst being comedically expensive.

Not in Mayfair but Milos off St James Park always looks very inviting.

Then again, so does Scott’s.

Really like Scott's, food is excellent. Unpopular opinion but also really like Sexy Fish.

It's impossible to see a London fish restaurant thread without mentioning Behind: Andy Beynon's London Fields place. It's almost certainly too far for someone looking in Mayfair but for anyone else wanting a fun place for great fish, it really is hard to beat. Scotts and Sheekey don't come close, but are decent enough.

Whatever you choose OP, hope lady OP enjoys it smile

You'd always get the odd ropey review though i guess no matter how good a restaurant.

and fwiw, for an 'event' meal for the missus, I'd probably recommend Scotts.

edit - brainfade earlier while typing 'good' somehow
