Hiya,

Got a moka pot for xmas, it was one of those things ive never got round to buying that er indoors obviously remembered.

Had a first go earlier, quite surprised how quick it worked.

I drink cups more than expresso, How much ground do I need for a cup of americano and me not to end up bouncing off the walls?

How many cups is it? Hopefully a 2 cupper, you don't want to underfil with coffee otherwise you're not getting through water going through the coffee.

Lots of videos on YouTube. Just fill the coffee receptacle to level and then maybe a couple of mm above but do not,"tamp" (compress) it.

Fill the water reservoir with boiling water up to just below the pressure valve. Not beyond. Put on hob with lid up.

I use a low gas heat, and when it starts to flow through, once the coffee coming up starts to go a straw colour take off and cool outside of reservoir under running water.

Use fresh ground coffee if you can for best results.

Yeah you need to fill the basket, it'll make crap coffee if you half fill it.

For this reason a 1 or 2 cup size pot is best if it's just for you. Ofc you can have multiple pots. I've ended up with a 1, a 3 and a 6. (And a dripper, and a Rok, but that's just silly isn't it?)

Lots of things to explore while WFH! I have always been an instant man.

I liked the way it was hot, the bean to cup machines krups etc always seemed luke warm.

Do you bother with anything for the hob? seemed OK on one of the smaller hob sections.

As long as it isn't going to fall over on the hob, I wouldn't sweat it. For my tiny 1-cup I balance it right on the burner and it's fine on a lowish heat. Just make sure the flame isn't big enough to melt the handle.

You can always just master a single / double expresso shot on your Moka pot and add hot water to taste.

I don't follow any of the rules above but love the coffee it makes!
I fill the water thing with cold water up to the level.
I put a big spoonful in the basket and tamp it down very lightly (this is a 4-cup I think, might be 6 cup)
I then leave on the hot plate of the Aga until it has finished bubbling (lid shut).
This gives a perfect mugful at the right strength for me. I always use this method for me, but use a french press if need to make coffee for more than one.

Just experiment and find what suits you.

Yeah I don’t follow the rules either. It’s a quick brew method so what’s the point in faff. Mine gets used mainly to infuse vermouth for coffee Negronis anyway.

I usually add the same again of boiling water to the output for a long coffee.
