Our trusty Nespresso coffee machine is starting to play up after many years of loyal service.

Like the idea of a bean to cup machine, less waste definitely, nicer coffee maybe?

Can I get something decent for £100 second hand? I don't know anything other than you can spend a lot and I imagine the cheaper stuff probably isn't very good.

So if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.

If only there was a thread for some light reading…

Experts in there.

Don't be convinced to spend £3k on a different setup. They'll try.

hehe

Not £3k. But a niche zero (£500) and a gaggia (also £500) will do. Plus a new basket. And some good scales. Oh, maybe a bottomless portafilter. And nice cups. And a tamper. And a WDT tool. And a £10/week subscription for fresh beans.

Yeah there's a few but the first one I clicked on the first reply suggested a machine for £2800.

The second one seems more interested in cafetieres and £300 grinders.

If someone can condense a thousand pages into 2 or 3 suggestions for someone who wants a convenient coffee that tastes OK then that would be splendid and a mod can happily lock the thread.

Just ask the question in there, they know it's a long thread with the same question asked all the time.

Don't spend £100 s/h as there's always a reason for sale and it's likely to be wasted spend. An Aeropress would be money better spent.

This is absolute entry level from a credible brand

I bought one of these...

https://www.melitta.co.uk/products/coffee-machines...

It's a few years old now and I've probably had 1000s of cups through it. I think I paid about £200.

If it broke tomorrow I'd buy it again. I'm sure the expensive machine are better but to me I can't justify the cost.

Standard of coffee to my taste buds is very good.

Edit to add that we also bought it to replace a nespresso machine and it's miles better and a lot (!!!!) cheaper to run if you drink lots of coffee.

These do come down to about £140 and have a 2 year warranty

NSIS

But yes, it's all the missus drinks, not a fan would be a bit of an understatement.

I take the point and thanks for the suggestion but I do like a bargain, along with a bit of a gamble and with ebay buyer protections being so good if there was anything wrong with it i'd easily get my money back.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check them out sounds like the kind of thing I'm after. I'd buy another nespresso machine as the convenience is great and the coffee is acceptable but the amount of waste niggles and the cost of pods does add up.

Will get the missus to do some sleuthing, she's good at searching for the best price.

Harts is best price at the moment. Seriously, a 100 quid sh machine is likely to be nasty.

With the same company? Just a matter of holding out until an offer comes along?

Yes fair enough. The £100 referred to something used with a rrp obviously much higher but if that one Is decent enough then it does make sense.

If you wait for an eBay discount code to become available (they usually have one every few weeks), you can usually get an official refurb direct from the Delonghi store for a little over £100. From the one I bought, and lots of comments on HotUKDeals, they all seem to be brand new/unused.
