I’ve looked high and low on the internet, but can‘t find the damned things anywhere…

We picked up a box of oysters on the way to a friend‘s place in the French alps last Christmas, without really knowing how to open them. He invited an old French neighbour to join us for Christmas Eve with the ulterior motive that she was well equipped. She brought what I can only describe as a half inch (at most) bladed pair of scissors that she taught me to snip open the base of the shell with. It‘s far far easier and safer than shucking them, but she refused to tell me what the tool was called or where I could buy it from.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

You could do a Google image search for “pince à huitres” and see if you recognise what you saw

Merci monsieur, mais nul points frown

Even in French the search returns shucking knifes and over crustacean openers, but not these little scissors.

We are calling it a "pince a huitres" ou "ouvre huîtres"

If you wish to buy it:

Enjoy.

Another Google image search you could try: “ciseaux fruits de mer”

Sorry but that looks rubbish. A complete unnecessary gimmick. As an enormous fan of oysters it doesn’t take long to get to grips with opening them. You can do it with anything if you know how. The best knife I have I got from porthilly oysters last time I was down there.
