For use on an induction hob.

I do have one of these, but sadly as most people will know, on paper it looks like it would be ideal, but actually not getting the heat to the whole steak isn't what you want: https://www.lecreuset.co.uk/en_GB/p/cast-iron-squa...

I know there are millions of pans out there, so anyone able to recommend a winner? Obviously I'll end up using it for other things, but ideally I want one that's perfect for getting the best sear for a steak.

Are you on induction?

When I've used that pan I linked above, I've put it on the hottest possible setting on the hob but I have found that it ends up getting the pan actually too hot and the whole hob shuts down! I think that might be because it's cast iron, plus it's not losing any heat cooking anything as I'm waiting for it to get as hot as possible before putting the steak on it.

So just wondering if I'd have the same issue with anything cast iron.....

I quite like the look of this but I have a cast iron already and this isn’t cheap.

^^^ that's carbon steel with lines to make stripes.

It's also twice the price of other carbon steel pans.

I didn't buy Groves for the name it was the right size and best value.

Agree with that. Carbon steel, spun iron, can't go wrong.

Just don't put the hob on max setting.
Turn it down one or two notches and the cast iron will still get to the desired basrsrd hot temperature.
