Where is the best afternoon tea in london these days?

Looking to take my mum for her birthday next month.

Where is currently the best?

The Langham Hotel was magnificent when I took my mum. We went for a walk through the gardens and on to watch a show in Regent’s Park’s open air theatre afterwards.

I've done The Ritz, and Fortnums, and Claridges is miles better than both. But so it should be at the price. Just superb.

How many rounds of sandwiches do people order?

I didn't know this was a thing until the table next to us started ordering more and more sandwiches.

A year ago yesterday we had afternoon tea at the The Swan pub next to the Globe Theatre. It was absolutely superb. Mrs.Chips had a traditional afternoon tea and I had the “Gentleman’s” version. Mine was virtually entirely savoury, the only sweet thing I had was a macaron, which for me, was exactly the right amount of sugar, check out the website for further info.

The Savoy, just a wonderful experience in a stunning setting then followed by a couple of hours in the American Bar, just the perfect afternoon….

I agree the Savoy is magnificent. It's what I would chose if I was doing it .

Savoy or the Ritz won't see you wrong.

If you want something funkier, try Sketch.

Done my fair share of afternoon tea. The usual one's always get mentioned, like the Ritz etc.. however two places I found pretty special..

Sketch - less traditional, modern funky surroundings, good experience.

Café Royal - Very special room where they hold it, service and food is impeccable

Spoiled for choice in London for good Afternoon tea.
One not mentioned is Brown's Hotel. We went there for father in laws birthday, and it was really fantastic. Gorgeous traditional decor, and a superb afternoon tea.

The Petersham Hotel. It has one of the best views in London from the dining room.

Savoy is always good but also Browns down the road is also excellent and a bit more cosy if you go in the winter.

Indeed. I went in August 2021, a ridiculously hot day and they asked me to put my jacket back on. Service was over attentive (I'm fine thanks, leave us alone) and the food was nothing special.

Claridges is the place to go.

£85/head these days for the traditional, no champagne. But if you're considering the Ritz or Savoy, I doubt they are much different. Claridges is in a different league.
