My daughter bought me some Hawkstone lager and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It really is excellent. I usually drink John Smiths or Boddingtons but I'm keen to try some IPA paler beers. The Hawkstone beer is pretty expensive though and sometimes can be hard to get hold of.
Has anyone tried Hawkstone and is aware of something similar I can try?

I haven't found anything like it to be honest.

You can get it direct for £50 so just over £2.00 per bottle and it is free delivery over £40, if you subscribe it is less.

Not tried hawkstone so my advice here will be limited, but hawkstone is a lager, and it obviously has a slightly more developed bolder taste than most lager's on what you said, but you don't want an IPA.

Try things like:

Hop house 13

Camden hells

Brooklyn

Brewdog lost lager

Monterey

Haven't tried Hawkstone either, but one local to us does a great Lager, Eis Bar which is 5% it's from XT Brewery near Thame.

Rebellion, in Marlow do a Lager now as well, although I haven't tried that one either - their IPA is far too drinkable! Their Lager is 4.4%

I guess you had the 4.8% one as opposed to the 4% summer one?

I tried the lager and loved it, immediately signed up to a monthly subscription - £35 for 24 bottles once a month is a bloody bargain IMO. I'm actually expecting an email at some point saying they're upping that price as it's really very cheap compared with the one off purchase price.

Have had Hawkstone several times and I agree it's excellent, I usually get it off Amazon but have just seen it's out of stock. Not surprising given all the marketing they've been doing.

In regards to something similar, I have to say I've not really had anything quite like it so I can't recommend anything that's similar I'm afraid (that's a compliment to Hawskstone). In terms of a crisp-tasting lager at a similar price point, I'd maybe try Stella Unfiltered. Genuinely different to Stella (which is a blessing considering the state of it today) and has that fresh balanced taste to it.

But I do think Hawkstone is a fantastic lager at a great price so I don't think you'll replace it I'm afraid.

I'd add to this Aldi do a Hop House knock off called 1079 Project that is rather excellent and as described a morre hopped pilsner.

OOoo actually Brooklyn is a great shout I'd forgotten about that.

I'd agree, not sure I've had anything like it which is why I immediately signed up to the subscription.

I'm a bit torn on Hawkstone, as I agree it's good. I may not have it exactly correct but belive JC invested in the Cotswold Brewery, which then effectively rebranded and relaunched with new products.

Prior to this Cotswold made circa three largers, with a 5.0% one called Premium. This, to me, was the best lager I've ever had. Hawkstone is good, but the Premium topped it easily. I lament its loss.

I really like Stella Unfiltered too. Haven't seen HH13 for ages thinking about it, need to look some up. Went nuts on it a few years back and burnt out a bit but haven't had it for long enough to have another go I reckon!

This is nice too: Sapporo but in a massive can!

Have to agree with this, the Brooklyn is slightly different to most lagers and surprised me.

Some of the suggestions above are (IMO of course) very very ordinary.

This is worth a try: https://www.majestic.co.uk/beer/alhambra-reserva-1...

Well, the listing says "suitable for any occasion" hehe

It's very good. I think they may have put the alcohol content up since I last had some.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I bought a few speciality beers/lagers fro the local supermarket, including Beavertown Neck oil, and intend to compare and contrast.

Bevertown neck oil is a very fruity ipa. Its not a lager.

Indeed. However as someone who loves Hawkstone, I also love Neck Oil.
Not saying they’re similar at all, but maybe OP might have similar taste buds and also enjoy both.
