The Wine Society.
£40 to join, but you get £20 off your first order. Excellent value, delivery and their own label wines are generally very good too.

+1. Does not matter what price you set yourself for a bottle of any wine you will get a better product with them. Check website for the substantial stock of wines at reasonable prices. Newspapers regularly vote some of the wines as very good. Free delivery too.£40 to join, but you get £20 off your first order. It used to be when you died they paid out a sum of money dependent on how much you spend during your membership, do not know if that still applies, SWMBO insists I order wine from them regularly, even helps me to drink it so I can order more.
We usually order from a local (Edinburgh) independent retailer with an online presence ("Great Grog") which does a variety of mixed cases at different price ranges or regions - free nationwide delivery if spending over £110.
Never disappointed and seems good value to us with some interesting stuff appearing in the mix.
There must be plenty decent independents doing similar around the country.

In my ignorance, I assumed that The Wine Society was a subscription service.£40 to join, but you get £20 off your first order. Excellent value, delivery and their own label wines are generally very good too.

After the initial joining fee you can buy as much or as little as you want. They operate at a level of buying power below the supermarkets so can sniff out interesting wines. Their own label stuff rarely dispappoints. The only slight downside is if you fond somehting nice, it usually sells out so gone when you want to reorder
For more esoteric/rare/expensive wine I use Fine and Rare Wines They are brokers with access to cellars and winemakers across Europe and some wine in stock. Usually are buying in bond so VAT and duty payable on dispatch. They have a fully searchable database which is really helpful for wine geeks. They aggregate critic scores so you can search on rating to find overperforming producers. Typically Maconaise wine competing with posher white Burgundy and Bordeaux satellites like Côtes se Castillon competing with top clarets. They've also promoted wine which I otherwise wouldn't have found.
Majestic are good due to user reviews (as long as you review the reviews as you would with Amazon or Tripadvisor)

Splendid, glad you were happy with the recommendation.I've used them for the last 7 years, and in the "sensible money" range think they are great value.
£20 for a lifetime "membership" isn't much these days and if you get a wine which really isn't up to scratch them Member's services will refund you without any quibbles, but I've only felt the need to do that twice.
