Heck, the sausage company, have just announced that they are reducing their vegan range from 15 items to 2. They were quite surprised that their quinoa and beetroot sausages were not more popular. Over the last 6 months all major supermarkets have reduced their meat free offerings by 11%.

Has anyone tried much of it and is it worth being brave?

Tesco Wicked Kitchen hoi sin and Plant Chef no beef in black bean sauce are pretty good, even if they smell a bit iffy when cooking.

Nothing wrong with meat free meals, they can be just as delicious, we have them regularly.

However, things pretending to meat are generally crap.

Linda McArtneys burgers are top notch (freezer) and Richmond Sausages are very good. Squeaky Bean sandwich hams are good too. THIS Isn't product range is good but pretty expensive.

For me, alot of it is over-priced so generally I just eat a stload of tofu or soy mince. Also for me, whether it contains animal flesh or is completely meat-free, they're still highly processed and not particularly good for you so I consider them a treat as opposed to a staple.

beyond meat sausages and burgers are actually very nice in their own right...if you ignore all the gunk that leaks out. the heck stuff is crap, both meat and meat free. mass production for supermarkets ruined what was once an ok product, still they done well out of it!

I tried a full fillet from "Juicy Marbles" and made a pie with it. Genuinely the kids didn't notice that the pie wasn't beef as the texture was very close to beef. To use it as a steak would be tough (but it does crust up like a steak) and the taste isn't a perfect match.

However it is expensive. The whole fillet was about £45 but as a treat and an experiment it was a success.

Order it from there website.

I was the same. Think they only had it for a valentine's day dine-in meal deal type thing. Was by the Israeli company "redefine meat" IIRC.

Recently tried a Greggs vegan sausage roll, just because. It was vile.

OTOH the vegan burger I had in a veggie restaurant recently, again mostly out of curiousity, was nicer than some meat ones I've had. Had I not known, I wouldn't have known.

All of the Co-Op Gro bits are good, also like the Richmond sausages (wouldn't touch the meat ones with a barge-pole).
Other than that we tend to make everything at home.

Likewise, except for the "This Isn't Pork" sausages!

I've been vegan for about 5 years and I'm pretty sick of the meat free stuff tbh. It all tastes quite samey so you get bored of it quite easily.

I do like the This Isn't range of stuff though, their sausages are especially good. Also beyond meat burgers are good.

Heck's vegan stuff is frustrating tbh, they do some really nice stuff but the discontinue a lot of it quite quickly and keep the little picnic falafels etc which aren't as nice.

I buy and and consume a lot of Birds Eye Green Cuisine meat free stuff, and it's all very good. I particularly like their Fishless Fingers. Their burgers are OK too, but I think Beyond Meat beat them there. Breaded meat free chicken and fish fillets are good too - cook in the air fryer in minutes from frozen.

For mince substitute, I haven't found anything which beats Quorn mince. I add Maggi liquid seasoning and a bit of soy sauce to things for extra depth, works very well in the slow cooker for Chilli sin Carne.

Aldi have some good products in their freezer, but I don't get them very often as we get the bulk of groceries delivered from Tesco.

Quorn Southern Fried Bites are good. Quorn chicken pieces have their uses. I'm not a fan of the mince.

Aldi have some decent burgers, but need to cook carefully as otherwise chewy.

And yet better than the actual meat sausage roll from Gregg's laugh

Oh, we get Asda's own brand soy mince. Quorn's has egg in it so not vegan and it's pretty much the same. We usually use it to make meat free Mapo Tofu.

some of the birdseye green cuisine is nice in its own right, the problem with a lot of the stuff thought generally is its terribly unhealthy. Higher kcal and processed to sh*t than what its meant to be replacing.

birdseye veg fingers used to gods own work, havent had them since a kid.

yep for sure, i have been in greggs about 4 times in my life, first time when these came out to see what the fuss was about, so by no means an expert, but thought they were quite nice and then did a taste test vs the 'real' thing, and was less greasy, tastier, more meaty, and with the massive added benefit of 0 danger of hard/chewy/gristly/bony bits that you typically find in such things!
