Looking good!

None of mine have germinated yet, but expect that to change next week though.

My various tomatoes have been a revelation though with sixty seeds germinating on the bedroom window. I expect to solve the shortage come Sumner. cool

Which variety of chillies are you growing? I might grow some this year for making curries.

None if mine are showing in the pots yet, either. Probably planted about 3-4 weeks ago and kept inside.

Six different varieties.. referred to as culinary rather than superhots… I’ll dig out the list and post…

That's what I do now if I'm only growing small numbers of a variety. I buy them from the same place - one plug works out at pretty much the same as a packet of seeds and unless you have grow lights they are in a much better place by spring

Currently waiting for my Armageddon and Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion plants.

Looks a good website, seems they post out their plug plants end of Feb, not sure I have room on a window cill and the greenhouse might be too cold for them for now. I have a hearted propagator but I think they work best for germinating seeds rather that growing plants?

Good to see a thread on chillis!

Must be about 15 years since I last grew some - I threw some seeds from supermarket bought chillis into pots and had great sucess!

I ordered some seeds online this year: habaneros, 'basket of fire' and some Bhut Jolokia.

I've got them in germination trays at the moment, in the airing cupboard and on a radiator shelf. Started them off on Sunday so a way to go yet.

Probably be an epic failure now I'm trying to do it 'properly'.

The plugs above look like a good bet - might order some in case!

I've used a heated propagator before for bringing plants along.... put some gravel in the bottom, stand the pots on the gravel leave the lid off... keep an eye on the moisture level in the pots though as the heat from underneath can dry them out quite quickly....

Great, thank you. I wondered if the plants got leggy is left in the heated propagator? My propagator is in my greenhouse and taking them out of it and standing them in the greenhouse once germinated will be too cold for them until around May, so I might have to leave them in.

When Ive grown them previously without the propogator I've had managed to get green chillies but before they turn red the autumn temp drops and kills off the plants, so starting them earlier in the propagator might help.

I'm going to have a go using seeds from chillies I bought dried.

Can't hurt. Even if they don't germinate, the seeds didn't cost me anything.

However, it is dark in the house, a 17th Century cottage with thick walls and small windows. Previous attempts were leggy.

It so happens that Amazon had a grow lamp on a lightning deal. If it doesn't help, it's still a funky lamp hippy

Oh, will that work? I've just acquired a jar of dried chillies and I was wondering what to do with them as I don't really cook. I've had reasonable success from harvesting seeds from normal chillies, though this is only my second year of trying. I'm not sure why I bother, I only use them on sandwiches.

Growing anything you find in a Supermarket should be seen as an experiment, not as a crop to be depended on.
