Decent sub-£30 whisky
Discussion
I'll go first then, by no means any sort of Whisky expert or connoisseur but I know what I like. So I see you've got a Lagavulin there, one of my favorites though getting a bit pricy now, so for something similar and for less than £30 I'd like to recommend Smokehead a Single Islay Malt, currently on offer from Morrisons for £24.99

I reckon the best bet at that price is Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair which is often on offer for £25 at Tesco. Ticks all the boxes - 46%, no artificial colouring and no chill filtering.
Besides that I'd say the entry level Berry Bros. & Rudd bottlings are good:

Failing that, Talisker 10 is occasionally on offer at this price, or some entry level Gordon & Macphail bottlings.
I've noticed there are very slim pickings at this price point recently, and those that remain have declined significantly in quality. Highland Park 12 used to be an excellent dram but it is nowhere near as good as it used to be. I wouldn't bother with any generic blends at that price, they are all watery and rubbish. If you extend the budget to £35 you can get some gems - Thompson Brothers SRV5 and some entry level Compass Box stuff.

I'm just at the start of my whiskey appreciation journey. I've found a liking for Johnnie Walker Red Label and Famous Grouse Smoky Black. Did try Haig Club but found it very insipid.
I'm more than happy to drink neat Teachers and Bells as well though. My taste is not very refined
Someone bought me a bottle of Haig Club. It was the worst whisky I've tasted. I'm more than happy to drink neat Teachers and Bells as well though. My taste is not very refined
Some of the supermarket offers are unbeatable. There are usually good bottles for under £30.

Yep, I attempt to try something else at that price range but when I see that available especially at that price, I can't help myself. On my 4th bottle!I'd not heard of this but bought it for a friend who likes Glenmorangie, he liked it, and having tasted it it is similar.

Buffalo Trace seems to be a decent enough / well regarded "budget" bourbon, really enjoyed a bottle over Christmas and is currently £20 in Tesco for Clubcard holders.
Where bourbons are concerned Knob Creek is fabulous and often comes in under £30 Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
