Manchester Restaurants
Discussion
We’re in Manchester on Saturday night and looking for somewhere nice to eat if anyone has some good, recent experiences? Preferably around the Northern Quarter area (but not rigid). There are 4 of us (2 couples) and no fussy eaters - just enjoy good food.
Any pointers would be hugely appreciated.

Well, two things really. First up, town centre isn't really the best place to eat unless you're aiming high end like Wood. Evuna in the NQ is super fashionable (tapas) but there's no way you'll get a table at this notice. Ditto Tattu in Spinningfields.
You'll probably get into one of the tapas places on Deansgate (the Evuna there is less popular than the NQ one) or Dimitris greek tapas. Maybe chinatown? - we think Try Thai is best.
Otherwise, could you get a tram out to chorlton? Then you have Launderette, Sububurban Green or one of the ethnic choices near Sandy Lane / Barlow Moor Road - Little Yeti (nepalese), La Casita (mexican), The Drop (Caribbean), Zaytoon (Middle Eastern).
Above all, if it's for this saturday you need to get somewhere booked now.

When i've stayed there for work purposes I dined at Rosso's and Fazenda's, both great for different reasons.
Rosso's was lovely, great food and wine and a decent atmosphere
Fazenda's was amazing, having not been to a Brazilian restaurant before It was an amazing experience, a great setting and very good food and wine
For drinks I didn't go any further than the Alchemist

I went to a restaurant called Erst last year and been wanting to go back since, but live abroad so don't get too many opportunities. It is a natural wine bar and restaurant serving sharing plates tapas style. The flat bread served with a sauce was amazing, such a simple dish but incredibly moreish. Another dish was roast potatoes with some type of sauce and herbs, again a very simple dish on paper, but incredibly tasty and also a burrata dish, cheese is always a winner. The dishes are not anything fancy in terms of the complexity of them, it is more about the quality of the ingredients. I'm probably not selling it too well, but I really enjoyed it.
in the general NQ area i can recommend;
for super informal; try Mackie Major- formerly a food market hall; numerous food / drink outlets- i've tried several- all good and bench seating with total strangers. i think its first come first served so may have to queue
informal; there is Viet Shack on the NQ/Ancoats border. Yard & Coop (chicken) and Pie & ale (pies!) in NQ, or rudys pizza- some folks "go-to" for pizza
semi formal; TNQ, you may struggle to get in without a cancellation this close. and Evuna as mentioned previously.
enjoy

Thank you all for your suggestions. Finding a table in some places was impossible as people rightly pointed out - however, it was a last minute thing for us to go to Manchester. In the end, we've booked into Hawksmoor for dinner.
I'll be sure to try some of the other suggestions next time I'm in that neck of the woods with a bit more planning though.
Thanks again.

Last minute booking for Hawksmoor on a Saturday night - if done online, just make sure you've not booked into the bar area rather than the restaurant.I'll be sure to try some of the other suggestions next time I'm in that neck of the woods with a bit more planning though.
Thanks again.
Great restaurant, you'll have a fantastic night.

evuna is fashionable?? It's just a tapas chain and to be honest the NQ one isn't even their best site. Dimitris has been terrible for years. hawksmoor, cottonopolis, el gato negro, refuge, 63 degrees, mana, elnecot, kala, erst, siam smiles, 6ix by nico, dakota, mackie mayor, blues kitchen, three little words, alberts schloss, federal, wood, edinburgh castle, black friar, bundobust brewery, porta...
you'd struggle to go wrong amongst the above.
