Restaurants at home kits
Discussion
We've tried a few during lockdown to replace usual going-out celebration meals. Not sure how many of these fulfill outside of London but:
Patron - Highbury & Kentish Town. Tried a couple of times now and excellent both times
Smokestak - Shoreditch. Excellent but can mean a lot of a couple of types of meat/dishes rather than a range of courses
Joy - Portobello. Very good aside from one dish (Beef wellington)
Dishoom. Only tried their breakfast kits as a "warm at home" but they're incredible every single time. Definitely ship nationally.
Pizza Pilgrims. A fun novelty but no real difference to just having a local one delivered.
One thing we've noted is that heating times seem to be optimistic, all meals have benefitted from an additional 25% cooking time on top of recommended to get truly piping hot. That may well be a fridge/oven issue isolated to us though.

I was looking at the dishoom breakfasts the other day but was thinking I could probably knock up my own version for less than £16? Worth the hassle or go for it?

A big part of my job/industry is taking clients out to thank them for business, going to nice restaurants for lunch usually. Since this has hardly been an option in 2020, we have been sending loads of these kits out, and they go down really well.
Burger making ones in the summer are excellent, but to be fair all of the ones from well known places are worth a try. Of course, you may end up paying way more for something that needs be; you could probably do the Hawksmoor one yourself from the butcher for half the price.

I really, REALLY like Dishoom, but their breakfast kit doesn't agree with me - their whole menu is authentic except that. You won't find a bacon sandwich in Mumbai. (I know that makes me a food snob cock)
I shall be ordering the feast, and I shall report, should we be spared.....

I have ordered this for Valentines. Maybe not in the same ballpark as the Hawksmoor offering but I fully expect it to be high quality and will have less impact on the wallet.

Buy the Dishoom Cookbook and your sorted https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dishoom-Bombay-Love-Shami...
Just be aware that some things take a bit of time (like making the Naan Dough!)

Some friends did the Hawksmoor package before Christmas and said it was excellent. As you would expect
Just looked at that site ....... at the price.GT03ROB said:
I'm not sure I get the point. The steak would have to hop out of the box into the pan & cook itself to perfection at that price. I could understand buying food to cook at home where it has been prepared by the restaurant & your job is to slam it in the oven for a while. But steaks or burgers or similar.... Naah don't get it at that price. Each to his own though.
There is a bit more to that than just a steak.I agree it's relatively easy to secure a quality steak but not so easy to make quality sides and sauces. Or the cocktail.
In lockdown one we used dishpatch a few times and found the quality high but in the end I enjoy cooking so I didn't get much of a benefit.
For those who don't cook much or suffer from a lack of inspiration it's probably worth paying a premium
