Brandy as a pressie

Hi all, want to buy a bottle of brandy for someone but don't know one from the other. . . . can anyone please give me the heads up of what to buy priced between £25 to £50? Thanks lads

I take it you know they like Brandy. My father in law wanted to get me some Brandy and asked the wife what I like. She had to tell him I never drink it and the only Brandy we have in the house is for cooking.

Something other than cognac.
Waitrose has two Armagnacs the more expensive one & Spanish.
Also Calvados although I know even less about that

Someone got me a bottle of Hine Fine once and I enjoyed drinking it. About £50 a bottle.
I find with brandy if you spend less than this it’s mostly for cooking!

Two very different price points £130 v £34.

The VS is a great cognac for the money, and the XO is just so dark and dreamy, but a bit pricey. However a bottle normally lasts me 6 months as I’m happy with the VS as my regular drink.

I wouldn’t bother with anything in between these prices as they don’t really get any better, and I’ve tried the vast majority!!

Brandy is not my choice of spirit, but over Christmas I usually have a bottle of Remy Martin which I drink on it's own and also use to anoint the Christmas pud and put in the brandy butter.

I'm no expert but Janneau Armagnac is very smooth and tasty compared to a lot of brandies, get the one in the tear drop shaped bottle apparently.

Hine rare has been a staple of mine for years, always consistenly good, and as good as some XO's I've had. Excllent VFM in my experience.

My friend in France was the former President of Armagnac.

He explained that if you put Cognac, Rum, Whisky Calvados etc in the same barrels and left them 50-years, then they would all taste exactly the same, the human palate could not differentiate them.

He reckons that buying based on another person’s recommendation is not a wise move. These drinks a wholly dependent on the person drinking it.

I would suggest that you ask the receiver’s partner which Brandy he normally drinks, and then see if you can afford it.

Another vote - although I've only had the Shipwreck. Delicious and an interesting story thrown into the bargain. Think Calvados but not from Calvados.
