When do 2012 wines get released to shops?
Discussion
I've been trying on and off for the latter half of the year to buy a bottle of wine from 2012. Reason being I want a bottle or two to put down for my daughter for when she reaches 18/21.
I'm not a big drinker in the slightest. So I'm a bit clueless in this regards. I tend to just ask when I'm in the local supermarket. The shelf stacker will walk up and down the aisle and say not yet mate sorry.
Better yet as well if anyone has any suggestions on wine that will keep for 20 odd years or how to I'm all ears. I'm not looking to start a collection just want a couple bottles.

Unless your daughter is already 18 or 19 a supermarket is the wrong place to be looking for a wine that will keep for 20 years+
Have a look at somewhere like Berry Bros & Rudd here:

no, bog standard will last anywere between 6 months and 2 years, perhaps a little longer if stored correctally, but not much.
non vintage champagnes will not last that long either. so if you are thinking of getting some, get vintage.
Oh ok. Interesting but and excuse my ignorance I wanted something the same age as her. Is there anyone that makes wine that is designed to last for years or am I barking up the completely wrong tree?non vintage champagnes will not last that long either. so if you are thinking of getting some, get vintage.
Lol I can see it now.

What about a watch (swiss, automatic) instead, slightly more pricey though, but its the only product that I could think of that would last that amount of time in a draw/cupboard.
That was a though. She has taken a shine to my Sub so I may get her something like that in a few years time. Definitely can't afford a new one at the moment and again the 2nd hand thing albeit I could lie and tell her its from 2012 it wouldn't be the same. Miguel Alvarez said:

A Bordeaux will be your best bet but be prepared to pay a few hundered quid per bottle for something with that sort of ageing capability. Give Berry Bros a bell and I'm sure they will be happy to help.
You probably won't be able to actually get your hands (physically) on one of the 2012 bottles for a year or two as they are sole 'en primeur' i.e its sold before its been bottled so its essentially like buying futures in wine a few years before they are available.
Most good dealers will have cellar plans and will allow you to buy wines and they will store them for you in bond until you either want to sell them or (heaven forbid) drink them.
If you are going to splash out on a few bottles to drink on your daughters 21st birthday you should probably get it stored professionally as keeping it under the stairs will turn it into vinegar after a few years.
Its a great idea but its not going to be cheap.

For example, I bought friends an Imperial (6ltr bottle) of a decent claret as their wedding present. 25 years time it should be hitting its stride nicely and should make a decent centrepiece to any celebration they chose to have.
If you're thinking French, then the 2012s won't be released for a little while yet (when depends on which region you're looking at).
Did you have a budget in mind?
A good Bordeaux or Port.... Buy 1st release and shouldn't cost the earth to buy case but needs to be stored correctly.

What are the chances of them still being married (to each other)?Cheers guys. I appreciate the help. I hadn't really considered a budget. I guess if I'm going to have to shell out a bit I'm thinking max £50 a bottle. Like I said earlier though I don't drink at all so have very little idea what the cost relationship is like between a cheapo bottle in Sainsburys vs something a bit nicer. I was thinking £25 a bottle originally no idea where that price came from.
Would I need to do anything special storage wise. I was thinking sticking it in the loft/under the stairs etc and forgetting about it. I have in the back of my my head from somewhere that I need to turn the bottle once a year or so.
I really should have started getting sloshed from an early age down at the local park lol. I'm clearly clueless.

Cost; can be a lot less than £50 a bottle!Would I need to do anything special storage wise. I was thinking sticking it in the loft/under the stairs etc and forgetting about it. I have in the back of my my head from somewhere that I need to turn the bottle once a year or so.
