I was sat having a regular Big Mac Meal (with diet coke) in McDonalds earlier today (first for a while and I had missed lunch and was starving before anyone starts).

I was also a bit bored and so was looking at the nutrition information on the back of the tray cover thing. I pondered if it were possible to have a whole days calorie intake in one seemingly 'standard' meal. I was shocked!

1x Crispy chicken and bacon deli roll (it says deli so can't be bad (right?))
1x Large fries
1x Large banana milkshake
1x Double chocolate muffin for pudding
Some dipping sauce

That fairly 'standard' meal has 2220 calories in it!!

Mental!

I do sometimes wonder if the less inclined people would order and eat that without giving a thought to the fact that is basically the only food they can eat that day.

Can anyone do better than that, i.e. less food with even more calories? Something that a person would eat without really thinking about it?

I once made an entire casserole full of stuffing and ate that for lunch.

How about

Chicken Tikka Masala - Circa 1000 calories
Pilau Rice - circa 650
Peshwari naan - 660
3x onion bhajis - 200 each

Top it off with a couple of beers at 130 each and you're at a healthy

3170 calories roughly.

Delicious!!

Zizzi's calozone pizza and a glass of wine plus any dessert from their menu will do it, I normally have a starter as well yikes

None of that for the last year though but I have gone from 15 stone to 12.5 stone.

That is a fairly mental amount of calories right there, although I am not sure I could eat all of that and not think about the it (or indeed manage it!). Would that be more like a meal for two?

That's the spirit though, a fairly 'normal' amount of food with huge fat implications.

My worst in a while was last week, went out for a indian:

2 large Cobra's
2 popadoms with onion, mint and mango
Onion bajhi's x2
Sag Aloo
Lamb Tikka Massala
Coconut Naan
coconut rice.....

Got to be a few in there....

Worst of all was my birthday this year, a normal work day:

Breakfast: - Sausage & Egg sandwich with ketchup (Fuzzies Bow Lane)
Lunch - Pizza GoGo supersize chicken BBQ stuffed crust pizza (16ish slices) delivered to my desk
Dinner - Indian - 2 popadom's, coconut rice, coconut naan and a chicken passanda.....

Guess this is why I have put on 3 stone this year....

That's usually my intention of a weekend. Why cook three meals when one will do the job. Not quite sure it counts as a 'standard' meal though.

In general, people don't pay very much attention to the calorie content of what they are eating. Sometimes it's very difficult to tell anyway (if you are eating out in a restaurant for example). This is why there are an increasing number of overweight / obese people in the world. With the improved food labelling laws, which have come in of late, it's getting easier to see what you're taking in, but at the end of the day, human nature will tend to dictate that people don't like to accept that the 'yummy' sweet / fatty cocncotion, that they are stuffing into their gob, is actually going to make them fat, unless they increase their level of activity to compensate.

I remember being in NYC and seeing the calories for the first time on food; we were in Burger King and couldn’t believe what was in my standard meal. I’m carrying a little too much wait and in no way naïve about why and what is in food but was a little shocked, I always have diet coke with fast food now, partly to offset calories and partly as I prefer the taste.

For me though its nights out that do me in, I don’t generally eat that unhealthy but I can easily put away 10 pints of ale on a night out plus food so 4000-5000 calories in a day isn’t unheard of, SCARY!

I eat fast food very, very rarely. Honestly can;t remember my last burger and was forced into a KFC last month for the first time in about 3 years. But, I will eat a burger at work and have managed to rack up 3000 calories for lunch if you include a bottle of wine etc

After Xmas I'm going to look seriously at what I am eating and drinking, getting too old to get away with it now!

During Euro 2004 McDonalds ran a 'buy one Bigmac meal, get a Big Mac free' promotion.

I decided that I was extremely hungry, which justified ordering two large Big Mac meals. I also quite fancied a Chicken Sandwich, so threw one of those in for good measure.

Four Big Macs, two large fries, a Chicken Sandwich, a large coke and a large strawberry milkshake left me feeling extremely pleased with myself. This adds up to a health 4355cal, which excludes several packets ketchup, bbq & curry sauce!

McDonalds just doesn't seem to fill me up.

Visualising the massive crap I went for 24 hours later would be far more impressive.

For some weird reason, I've got this ability to eat a hell of a lot of food. A lame superpower really. My portion sizes are very modest normally, cause otherwise I'd probably end up on some Channel 5 documentary.

Man v Food is a must watch though! Droooool...
