I'm cooking beef for eight on boxing day and the butcher suggest 2 forerib. Is this big enough? It doesn't sound very large but he was sure.

I'd get a triple for that number. In any event, beef sarnies the next day is better than hungry guests.

Sounds tight for 8.

I've ordered my 2 rib for 4 adults and 2 kids(3yo probably won't have any and 18mnonth old will eat it raw). There will be plenty but not enough for double the adults. My butcher said a 2 rib is about 4.5kg.

2 fore rib for a generous amount for 4.
2 for 8 is extremely tight as the total weight inc bone will probably only be 6lb or so before cooking.
I think I'm going to call and increase to three. It didn't seem very much but he insisted it was enough for eight servings!

You need to find the weight, as the joints do vary quite a lot.
2 ribs might be 3kg or 4.5 pre-cooked inc bone so it could feed between 4 to 6.
I reckon you need a 5 or 6 kg joint to feed 8 with ease. Usually that would be a 4 rib fore rib wink
When you carve you remove a fair bit of the total weight when you cut away the ribs & the bone at the base before you're left with the actual joint.

a decent double does six at most, got for 3 ribs and make sure you say "from the Sirloin end"!
