Can anyone recommend a nice country pub in the Bath area? Not too fussed about the food side of things, but somewhere nice for a couple of drinks and an open fire.

How close and in which direction?

Something like that would be perfect, but a little closer would be nice, say within half an hour of Bath?

I can vouch for there, and even better that you can sit outside and watch my sister fall off a horse on the gallops (as my parents did when they went to visit her a few months ago hehe).

The Crown at Tolldown (30 seconds south of M4 - take A46 out of Bath, circa 20 mins from centre)

White Hart at Ford (take old A4 - not bypass - to Batheaston, then up over Bannerdown past Colerne - easy 25 mins)
