FFS what is it with the "cute fluffy animals shouldnt be eaten" brigade? They'd have had a heart attack if they went back 40 years and found people regularly easting flopsy little bunny wabbbits

I worked in Lapland a lot over the last 2 years, just before last Christmas my other half was getting really fed up with her misbehaving kids and said "if you don't start behaving, Tony will eat ALL the reindeer and Father Christmas won't come"
You should've seen their faces!!
Now I've read the article I shall pop down and get some, it's bloody lovely and hard to get here

Any good recipes you'd care to share? As a steak - just really rare with a sharpish red wine gravy (that's how the hotel used to do them). Sometimes it came with lingberry jous which is bit like cranberry.
As a stew - onions, garlic, pepprika, lots of cream and about a third of the meat to be moose - that's how the locals eat it, all in a big Finnish wok thing over a fire pit. Fantastic.
Hope Lidl's start doing moose!!!

Kids getting upset isn't far from the truth...
8-10 years we went for a family meal. My sister brought her 2 kids, my nephew aged about 11, niece about 9.
We all order different mains.
My niece doesn;t like hers, so goes around the table asking everyone what they have, obviously after a bit of someone else's meal.
Thing is, she's a bit of town girl, so is't too sure about which bits of meat come from which animal, so we're having to tell her.
I'm having venison, and my niece still isn't quite sure about things until my loving sis' tells her that I'm eating Bambi..
Cue instant strop and niece won't speak to me for the rest of the day! "YOU ATE BAMBI!!" was the last thing I heard...

omg I didn't know you can eat reindeer
poor Rudolph...
you do know, you can eat all types of meat, just some of it like pike needs fresh water for a few days to be tasty.
poor Rudolph...any I cant believe the people who are going mental at this.
they are as bad as vegtabalists or vegans.
How sad can you get, complaining about something like this? No wonder Britain is seen as the village idiot of Europe!
Quite frankly, kids in this country could do with a bit more education on where their food comes from. As could most adults. The 'out of sight, out of mind' school of thought has allowed meat producers and suppliers in the UK to get away with selling s
t meat from animals raised in poor conditions for years.

Reading the article makes you think there are only Santa's reindeer up there - to be honest, there are hundreds of thousands walking about the forests. They're not wild as each herd is owned by the Saami who are usually somewhere nearby.
I'll try and stick some pics up tomorrow when I'm back home
I'ts good to tease the kids, I said it's delicious and you should always leave the best bit to last...the red nose is perfect for wiping the gravy up with

It's Walt Disney's fault. I have a theory that it stems from the anthropomorphism of animals in film...
I wouldn't mind trying Reindeer but can't think where there's a Lidl near me. Must go investigate...

Time to start putting a picture of a fluffy lamb on the packaging.
Better still, find the parents that find this upsetting and ask them why they propagate the idea that a strange man can come into their house and get his sack out for the kids.
Now then, now then young man, that's enough of those comments!Better still, find the parents that find this upsetting and ask them why they propagate the idea that a strange man can come into their house and get his sack out for the kids.

Slighty off topic, but ALDI do a pack of venison steaks for £7.99 which are lovely. (That's what I'm having for Christmas dinner).
