Bottle of wine £2.80
Discussion
Yepppp just bought a bottle of wine for £2.80 from Tesco. It was on the top shelf, with a security tag so I was
thought sod it I'll have a bottle, at that price if its crap can be used for drain cleaning.
Got home and put my glasses on and saw wine was from Israel
I thaught as last wine I had from there was
.... but this is actually very nice (I think it's been marked up wrong somewhere along the line,as why would they be security tagged ).... anyway it's Carmel Ridge Carignan Shiraz 2010

That wine would usually sell for well over a tenner, I'd go back and buy whatever they have of it if I were you.
That was what I thaught..... looked round a few places on net, and £12/bottle..... as I said very drinkable..... I'm just off to Tesco now hehehe (as I said marked up v. wrong, ..... it is something different to drink though).and on sale in the pub, just under £25 a bottle

I can confirm that the shelves in my local Tesco are now empty of this, and in the boot of my car (which is at the pub we stopped off at last night for a quck one
)
wonder how long before they notice their pricing mistake
just goes to show, shelf stacker doesn't even query why they are putting security tags on £2.80 bottles of wine, whilst all the the others are over a tenner

Shelf stackers only put what the computer says, not the other way round.

I've been lucky enough to drink very good quality wines at a few work functions, and did a summer working in France drinking stuff that was less than a quid a bottle.
I can tell the difference a bit, but not the sort of difference that I would want to be able to tell for a difference of £100 - £200 a bottle. I usually can't tell the difference between a £5 and a £50 bottle.
I maybe don't have a well developed palate, but if I like a wine, I don't care what it cost. OP, sounds like you've done well there...

who cares at £2.80 a bottle....... tasted great, and I won't begrudgingly use it for cooking either at that price.
More often than not it's the £10-15 'present' bottle of jumped up chateau-this-looks-expensive-but-is-mostly-vinegar that gets dumped in the pan. Plenty of tasty five quid bottles around.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Their 'Everyday Value Spanish Red' is a similar price. Not fine wine, much more in the style of the light 'holiday' reds you actually get in Spain or Italy. It just needs a bit of sun (sadly lacking today) and you are back en vacances.
