That don't require refrigeration at all, or just don't require refrigeration for a while?

Those 'look what we found' sachets were on offer in Sainsburys the other day - reduced to £1.
There's always tinned or packet soups.
Eggs are another easy option smile

MRE! Ah memories of Iraq 2003! Love the crackers and cheesey jalipino spread. MRE bombs using the cooker bag and for variation, through in the tabasco sauce to make a DIY tear gas bomb. Happy days.

The rest of the food.....not so much.

I seem to remember army rations being referred to as "compo"... am I imagining it?

Sounds like progfessional cynics at work. The MRE's I've had were top notch. Would not want to be restricted to them for too long
but not bad at all.

Basic dried foods are cheap and effective, and easy for packing - rice and pasta make great staples. Also if you have a cool box then freeze down 2 or 4 pint milk cartons and you've got a fridge for the first couple of days at least - just use the milk as it defrosts (2's will defrost faster than 4's so best to have one or two of each)

Eggs, cured sausages, tinned tuna. Use a bit of imagination. Throw in some vegetables and you're sorted.

If you're looking for light weight and tasty, waitrose do an amazing range of long life meals/boil in the bag stuff, or they used to about 8 years ago when I last needed them. The best one was potatoes with cream and lardons if I remember rightly. I think it was called the country breakfast or something.

Otherwise... Pasta, rice, jars of sauces, tinned fish or meat, vegetables.

Is there not a local shop?
