Pub / restaurant recommendations = nr Southampton
Discussion
Off to Good wood on the Friday but having to stay in Southampton. Wondered if anyone has any good pub / restaurant recommendations with say a 15 min taxi ride of the centre ? Don't mind a bit further if it's exceptional... After good quality more so than cheap, preferable with some good ales..
Southampton doesn't really have any great pubs or restaurants. Your best bet would be to head to Winchester to The Black Rat or Chesil Rectory or out into the New Forest to The Pig. There's also a very nice pub called The Plough which is in Sparsholt between Southampton and Winchester.

I'm not from round these parts but I am stuck in Marchwood at the moment. I hear the Pilgrim in Hythe is good for food, it's just a ferry ride away from Southampton too.
Probably some nice places in Southampton
The Pilgrim is in marchwood, and isn't worth the trip, esp by ferry, as you would need to get a bus too.Probably some nice places in Southampton
Plenty of reasonable places to eat. My favorite currently is Rancho's, down the bottom end of town. It's an Argentine steak house. The ribs are epic, but its not cheap.
Where exactly are you staying?
Robin hood, Durley.

Is about 25mins from Southampton, has proper restaurant, and a less formal one.
http://www.themasterbuilders.co.uk/ can sit in the garden and gawp at the yachts in the marina (much more civilised than Ocean village)
Bit further away http://www.thepighotel.co.uk/
