Photo of your healthy food thread
Discussion
This thread is for anyone to post in, any style, whatever quality of photograph. Its as always about the food first.
The theme of the thread is really based around any food with the calorific content. rather than simply healthy stuff like nuts, oats and spinach. I'm hoping others will post to inspire and support with pics of the food that works for them. maybe that way we can encourage each other to stick to it. I have had many false starts at this.. but I want to lose weight, For those that know my posts you will know I love food. that in itself presents a real problem. exercise kicks starts and helps but it all comes down to diet at the end of the day. I should know in the last 7 days I have cycled over 170k.. have I lost weight?.. nope... why cos I keep shovelling it in the front end.
We need to see food that tastes and works.
So in an attempt to lose some rapid weight I will try to stick to a diet, consisting of all food types just less of it. I'm trying to keep to a target of somewhere under 1800 calories a day. If I can nearer to 1000kcal. But that remains to be seen. I want to do this for a few weeks and see what happens,
For lunch I posted in the lunch thread.. but I will repost to get things going.
simple 2/3rds of a can of Pink Salmon and steamed (micro'd) veg. a hint of soya and a chopped chilli. about 270kcals. It wasn't very nice..

And for dinner, two chicken thighs stuffed with couscous, and a handful of blanched asparagus. 600kcal. I could have eaten twice as much.

600 calories in that dinner?I've just started a healthy eating plan too and as much as it hurts (normally cook from scratch every night) for the sake of calorie control I am having microwave meals.
However these ones are different to most micro meals, they come in a "steam pouch" and are loaded with lots of fresh veg (peppers, spinach, toms, cabbage etc) and only have about 250-300 calories, a really tasty filling meal too!
Last night I had thai red chicken noodles
Tonight it' was peri peri chicken with whole grain rice!
They are only £2.50 each too!
The only downside is you have to go to asda*
- I obviously send my butler
Hard to find a decent link online but this is what they look like
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/asda-compare-prices...
Honestly, for a microwave meal they are very good!

Reduce the carbs, they have the most calories but least filling. Instead of stuffing with cous cous have another thigh on there and increase the veg, sweet potatoes, squash, spinach etc. Will work out as less caps or the same but fill you up for longer.
When I 'diet' to lose fat I do something along these lines: (I love food and eat what I want most of the time but for a couple of weeks every 3-4 months I do it to increase muscle tone or 'cut'.)
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, with a little butter, a little onion and tomatoe and a slice of nice granary or seeded loaf.
Lunch: Chicken breast marinated in a variety of spice, with sundries tomatoes and mozzarella or tuna nicoise salad or vietname beef salad without the noodles. (Large portions!)
Dinner: (I need carbs for dinner as its after the gym) Teriyaki Salmon and wild rice or some such. Usually fish or lean meat with some unprocessed carbs or on non gym days I'd swap the carbs for veg.
Snacks would be nuts, veg such as carrot sticks or fruit.
However the main point is that most people think dieting means eating tasteless food.
herbs and spices are your friend and have virtually zero cals. Also there are lots of tasty salads if you look atvfar eastern cookbooks such as Vietnamese, Thai and also Japanese food is usually light yet filling.

I'm trying to diet and need inspiration.
Will do when I'm next dieting. Just about to go to the chippy for lunch though! I'm trying to diet and need inspiration.

Also I do a lot of exercise so even my dieting periods are 1800-2000 cals per day!
However a few tips:
- Have flavoursome food otherwise you'll give up quickly especially if you like food and are not a food is just fuel body builder type.
- Spices and herbs on your lean meat helps perk it up as does a light dressing for your salad. think citrus/ fish sauce/chilli/ and a touch of sugar on Vietnamese food.
-Look at the following cuisines for inspiration: Mediterranean; Lots of fish and low calorie veg such as spinach, eggplant etc., Vietnamese; lots of flavour, lots of salad and very light but filling, Japanese; Again lots of fish, and small portions, and suprisingly Indian; curries without cream or ghee served with brown rice, incredibly fragrant and yet light enough.
So today is a new day.. Thinking positively. grab a whole load of ingredients from home.
Chilli's
Chilli sauce from the weekend, Chiili's/garlic/Lime/Fish Sauce/Palm Sugar.
Lemongrass
Left over chicken thighs shredded (150gm)
Shallots
Cherry Tomatoes
French beans
Salad leaves
I took a snap of above .. then found I wanted to use coriander and celery and not the salad leaves.. so i substituted them,
f
k it was hot.. I mean Hot.. f
king Hot.. I'm sitting here post apocalyptic chilli mouth, can't speak, still sweating mode.
That sauce was made by my wife who is half Thai.. more chilli's than you can shake a stick at and been marinating for days.. I can't feel my mouth.
Anyway.. I reckon Chicken was 200 Kcal, the rest was no more than 250kcal so perfect.. and I couldn't eat any more..

See! Although the chicken looks a bit pale. I'd marinate or something to add as much flavour as possible.Chilli's

Once you have done this, a reasonable healthy diet plan eeds to be made to keep the weight steady. Basically, if a third of your plate is Fruit or veg, you won't go far wrong. Also try to avoid processed food, as a general thing, the more its been processed , the less good for you it is.
If you know anyone who is using the Slimming world plan , get friendly with them. My daughter used it and I unoffically joined her, works a treat. I lost considerably and my weight maintains itself within a couple of pounds. That is more a nutrition plan as against a diet plan, per se.
Incidentally, the 2 week diet I posted , is best when your under 50. The younger the better. All it needs is self discipline.

Not enough to do that.. I'm quite happily shedding a kilo a week by eating a mixture of all food types, carbs, veg, proteins etc.. and I love rice, can't live without it, same is for exercise. I exercise/train most days,
I'm cool with what I'm doing.
btw.. has anyone ever heard of cholesterol and Heart disease..
Also there are two key words in the threads title.. "photo" and "healthy" obob said:

Fat has the most calories at 9 cal per gram. Protein and carbs both have 4 cal per gram.
Yes but protein makes you fuller on less amounts. Or it does me anyway!
Fat is the best way to feel full longest. Protein comes in second but it's quite difficult to eat enough protein when at the expense of carbohydrates. If you really want to reduce carbs, for whatever reason, increase (healthy) fats rather than protein - much more calorie dense and satisfying.
I eat fairly healthily most of the time but I'm not big on presentation and have simple tastes so I have little to contribute here. Basically a meat and two veg kinda guy with a few herbs and spices along the way. No grains and few starchy carbs.
Dull, but it works.
