I'm looking to buy my first BBQ and really don't know what to look for. I think we will get a small charcoal one later in summer but I'm looking for a has BBQ for all year round use.

Say I had a budget of £300 what would you recommend? New or use I'm not too fussed, would love a Weber but not sure I'd get much for that money.

You can get a 57cm Weber One Touch Premium for less than £200. That's a LOT of BBQ.

Or are you in fact looking for a grill (i.e. gas or electric), and not a BBQ?

I know a BBQ is charcoal but it is just the term I'm used to whether gas, electric or charcoal.

I have seen the weber kettle bbqs and do like them but fancied the all year round capability of a 'grill' rather than the, made for sunny times charcoal jobbies.

If you do go for gas and want to use it all year round, make sure you get propane (orange bottle) and not butane (blue bottle). Butane won't burn at a high enough temp when it's cold.

BBQs will probably last three or four years.

I BBQ a lot used to only do it on coals then moved to briquettes and now use wood from the garden (i prune then let it dry out to use the following year). Using this method the fuel is free it's keeping your garden in good order and it tastes the best - harder to cook on as the timing is different and the heat is fierce then subsides.


Gas and BBQ.... Hmm not what I'd call doing it properly... However I have converted a few gas bbqers to coals it's more fun heat is better cheaper to run cheaper to buy.

Have had 5 no 6 BBQs over this hot spell already


They all wear out after 3-4 years so don't go bonkers on te price. Ours was £50 reduced and it's a oil or honey barrel 45gallon drum cut in half.

I've messed around with Gas bbqs around the £200 mark for the last few years and in the main they have been flimsy and not lasted more than 2 years, this year I've treated myself to something decent, and the build quality and ease of use are worlds apart. £600 from Costco if you are a member. I love to have a hot plate as well so that we can use it to do bacon and eggs for breakfast

I'm not sure yet as only picked it up on Sunday had 6 bbqs so far with an old 1/5 full bottle and it's still going. 27.99 for a 13kg refill.

Buy cheap and replace often. That goes for gas grills also, probably more so as there is an added level of complexity with regulators and burners and things to go wrong, get clogged, rust etc.

On the subject of BBQ longevity, my weber has stayed outside (uncovered) for 3 years now with absolutely no sign of degradation.

In the tip they will have a metal section goes in that.

Or you could take it apart and put it in your red recycling wheelie bin for the same outcome. Note taking it in tie car chance of filth damage to the car

More seriously, whilst I dont like gas grills, my parents have had a medium outback for about 5 years, and it's still going fine.

If they're selling that for £600 then that's about £1000 less than the Swiss Grill version, which is nice

Seen the Costco gas webber today... £1,200 mm utter quality item.

Though unless I won the lottery I'll stick to well under £100 use them for three or four years then bin.
