I really think I have lost it. I just seem to have no interest in food or cooking it. Just had a week off (back tomorrow) and thought hey I could do "this" one day "that" the next, as prep and cooking time not an issue. So far this week I have had three take aways and lots of sandwiches.

Its Sunday and I do not even have a roast on the go. Im having this tonight frown

It must be catching, mate; I've been much the same for a few weeks now. Far too little cooking from scratch; far too much pre-prepared.

I think I'll dig through my cookbooks and choose a style/country to work on for a while.

Enjoy the soup. biggrin

Seasonal Affective Disorder, possibly?

I'm prone to this and it's worst at this time of the year. I CBA with anything.

Possibly, not having much to do, hardly left the house. Did wash both cars, but in the shade to avoid the soap drying on the cars.

Try something new. I tend to get into ruts and get a few dishes spot just how I like them, then get bored.

Been there not fun especially if you enjoy cooking as a rule... what got me back with my mojo was starting to go to a different town for shopping , i live in leeds but now really enjoy going to Otley on a Saturday, about 3 very exceptional butchers , one is fantastic for things like pork pies, the other amazing cuts of meat like steaks or brisket etc and another stunning for the range of local and home made sausage. the Otley thumper has to be tried ... pork and chilli sausage or the pork, beef and black pudding sausage is to die for. plus the veg market.. i got 2 pound of baby pearl potatoes, Jerusalem shallots, 5 red onions, 4 large flat mushrooms (for stuffing) a pound of chestnut mushrooms, a pound of purple sprouting broccoli and a packet of inoki mushroom for 4 quid !!! whats more it was local produce and tasted amazing so far. have a wander round a market in a local town you dont shop at often and just look around the produce to inspire you... i got 5 times the meat and veg for less than i would find in a supermarket, better quality and the sellers really knew there stuff. plus was a pleasure to chat to the butchers and the veg sellers.. made my day to shop and cook the old fashioned way.... bugger supermarkets .. the markets are where youll find me nowadays !!

I think MC nailed it. I always thought SAD was a load of horse st but looking at the symptoms its fits. I kept getting woken up by the sun and wanted a lie in so used a sleep mask. I wasn't getting out of bed till midday, had the curtains closed as the sun was too bright. Hardly left the house for a week so no sunlight. Lethargy, no enegy, apathy etc.

Anyway enough about me this is a food forum, as you were.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Hmm strange.

Around October time each year I plunge into a deep depression, weather getting colder, terminal darkness etc...

This time of year, I'm like an Easter bunny hopping around full of the joys of spring.

And to bring it back on topic, I've really started getting back into cooking. Maybe I stole Cotty's mojo.

It's soon to be salad and BBQ season, what's not to love?

True SAD is actually worse in March / April due to the cumulative effects of shortened day length over winter.

I also think it's worse for people who work in offices under artificial light / in urban environments where there are fewer signs of the coming of spring.

Hmm...SAD is normally autumnal in onset. There is a rare form which is starts in Spring, but it is unusual.

i can count on one hand the number of times i've cooked in the last 10 months. the last time was roast belly pork with sherry/fennel/apple sauce on xmas day. i used to love cooking, but just can't motivated for doing it here. annoys me when i see oily dan's cooking on the recipe threads as i know i have no excuse.

From an organisation which has a vested interest in people self-diagnosing.

Some people feel a bit glum that summer's over, however that is not the same as true, endogenous SAD which is caused by low serotonin levels in the brain as the result of continued light deprivation over the shorter day lengths in winter.

Hence people with it feel worst in Spring.

Its happened to me. A few weeks and I'm back looking for something new. TBH its been when I'm cooking the same things that I get a bit disinterested, try looking for a new way to cook. I have flicked between indian, african, malaysian, regional british and chinese for many years and can always find something new.

Chin up Cotty.

How about a challenge?

Cook something from the 'best this month' part of the seasonal veg calendar:

As long as I can chose from a seasonal fruit and veg collecion too. Autumn is not a good time but I'm sure there will be something from North QLD or NT to sort me out.
