Eggs - how bl**dy much?

Was listening to an article on R4 yesterday about the increase in the price of eggs, from a commercial perspective - some poor ice cream maker had a 70% increase.
So I thought I'd pop in to my Egg Lady on the way home, and grab a tray, usually £3.30 (for thirty eggs). £4.75
All down to the anti-battery chicken legislation that came in in December. Don't have any objection to the legislation, as have always bought local, free range anyway, but from what she was saying when chatting, it's forced a fair number of people who used to sell her chickens (apparently it's easier to stick 200 or so onto a 20000 chicken order than it is to try and get them as a lot on her own) to liquidate (excuse the pun) their business, and sell on the cages to Poland (who are lagging a little behind the EU on this one).

Pro-tip! Ignore the tins near the curry sauce, and find the ethnic section. Best result for me was £2 odd for the "name" tin, and 60p for the genuine article. In the same damned store. Madness!
found that in the Jamaican section. Dunns River Coconut Milk was 50p but now £1.00 overnight. Still it's half the price of Blue Dragon.randlemarcus said:

Schwartz Cumin/Coriander/Tumeric - nearly £2 for a little bottle.5 aisles over £1.50 for half a kilo.

We sell a dozen large eggs for £1.85 or £2.30 for large free range in our farm shop. Supermarket quality doesn't even come close to these!
I pay about £1.85 a doz for the Burford Brown eggs in the supermarket. We had bantams when I was a kid an these are the closest I have found to truly tast and look like they are from true free range hens. Definitely something worth paying extra for, but I will get some more of my own one day.
