Anyone fancy it?
Glendronach Distillery, near Huntly in Aberdeenshire.
This is something that a few of us on the various whisky threads have discussed a couple of times.
The date we're looking at is Wednesday 14th March.
GlenDronach is best known for it's heavily sherried whisky, much of it is fully matured in sherry casks, rather than the more usual maturation in ex-bourbon or refill casks and then "finished" in a sherry cask. This type of maturation produces a dark, sweet, spicy malt of incredible character.
Anyway. They do a deal that for £300 you can stay in one of the distillery houses (Glen House for example has 5 en-suite bedrooms). You get a 3 course meal and breakfast prepared by an outside caterer. You also get a tour of the distillery by the manager and a tutored tasting of 6 or 7 drams.
Sounds expensive? Yes it does but in the house is a whisky bar with a bottle of every currently available whisky they sell. That ranges from £25 stuff to £450 1971/1972 whisky. And you have free reign to drink as much of whatever you want.
For those of you have invested in the PH whisky casks, this is an ideal opportunity to pop up to Glenglassaugh and day hello to our Octaves as well. And it would be rude not to do a tour while we're there!

It's £300 per person. They have 3 or 4 houses I believe. haven't actually booked anything yet...want to get numbers sorted. But they are quite quiet at this time of year.Do you get 'A Room' for your £300 or, more likely I expect per person?

Two definites so far, I think the distillery would rather have a larger group to make it worth their while, especially when getting an outside caterer involved...

The distillery is about an hours drive from Aberdeen airport (ABZ). Aberdeen is a 7 hour train journey from Kings Cross.I'd be able to pick peopel up from Aberdeen and take you out to my place which is a £15 taxi fare to GlenDronach...

I think there is a minimum of four people needed...
The distillery is about an hours drive from Aberdeen airport (ABZ). Aberdeen is a 7 hour train journey from Kings Cross.I'd be able to pick peopel up from Aberdeen and take you out to my place which is a £15 taxi fare to GlenDronach...
