I am approaching 30 and me and my mates are up for going here but being from south of london we don't have a scooby about what there is. We quite like trendy bars with cocktails so I can embarrass my mates by ordering the largest and gayest looking cocktails for them and we also need a nice place to eat we quite like lebonese/moroccan and italian foods. Then we need somewhere either steam train, ship or car museum type place to have a look round. it would be handy if anyone who knows Manchester could provide some links for me cheers.

Museum of science and industry will take care of the steam train aspect.

Plenty of decent Italian restaurants, Rosso is decent and owned by Rio Ferdinand, usually a footballer or two in there.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance of each other around the Albert Square, John Dalton Street, King Street/ Deansgate area, Printworks is full of chain bars and night clubs.

If your gay then get yourself to Canal Street you'll be right at home.

Food wise i can recommend Bem Brasil and ace place and again does great cocktails.

Taps is ace and surprisingly cheaper than bars around that area.

I'll add All Bar One as a nice place to start and do a cracking Peroni, Alchemist is also a decent bar.

To the Op set your route out prior to doing this and list your bars as one minute you can hit a decent joint and then you'll be in some toilet on Deansgate

Cheers for the advice not gay but like embarrassing my mates because they obviously aren't as comfortable with their sexuality as I am. You know the type they have to prove they are real men by drinking pints and watching football and wouldn't be seen dead with a cocktail complete with feathers and umbrellas, they will grow out of it at some stage ha ha.

You'll be fine on Canal Street.

Plenty of bars there where your friends will feel right at home......

I also seem to remember a female friend mentioning Panacea(?) for expensive cocktails?

I concur with pretty much everyone else here, although I would put Rosso before San Carlo in terms of food and service although San carlo is a better place to be "seen".
I would also advise Canal St, not just for the gay aspect, but that is a real place for tarty cocktails if you ask for them, very friendly area too, with seriously little trouble.
The bar in the Hilton is great, but you will have a queue to face especially at weekend.
Should you want to go on the pull the bars on Deansgate (living Room end) and the Printworks tend to be full of women on various "do's".

I'll try to bodge a better list, but the guys above have covered pretty much everything.

No pulling for me I have a wonderful girlfriend already but I suppose at least one of my lads might want to as he is single but he is too scared to talk to women to be fair. Manchester girls are they bold and chat up blokes like the legend of northern girls tells or is that a load of rubbish and they stand around waiting for the bloke to make a move.

If you're into your cocktails, you need to hit the Northern Quarter. Socio Rehab and Keko Moku are both next to each other. Keko is a Tiki bar with great rum cocktails and a legendary Zombie served in the same manner as a Flaming Moe!. Whilst you're in the NQ, check out Home Sweet Home. Recently opened and is a licensed coffee house which does homemade cakes, great toasties (try the cheeseburger toastie), milkshakes, cocktails and draught Red Stripe.

Other places for decent cocktails in Manchester would be The Living Room, Panacea, Restaurant Bar and Grill, Australasia, Apotheca, Alchemist. Mojo behind House of Fraser is a great bar and is all about the music. If you're after a late night beer, Blackdog Ballroom in the Northern Quarter is open until 5 am at the weekends and serves late night burgers/pizzas and also has a few pool tables at the back.
