...well actually a very large chicken, as we have to bring the bird for Chrimbo dinner. Plan is to cook it Christmas eve and then reheat or finish it off at my in law's. Any tips on how to do this to try and avoid it drying out completely?

Keep it well wrapped up on Xmas eve. When you get to your destination slice it up and reheat in the gravy maybe.

Can't it be cooked in the morning and rested in towels for a few hours?

here's our family tip to wrap it well that we have used for the last few years.

We generally try to have the turkey cooked by mid/late morning and take it out of the oven to rest.

It is then wrapped in tin foil and a couple of beach towels quite tightly and left to sit on the side while the oven is used for the veg and roasties.....

When it comes to unwrapping it later in the afternoon, it is still piping hot and nice and succulent having carried on steaming in its own little parcel.

Don't know if it would keep from the night before but it would definitely keep for 4-5 hours this way

Could you not aim to finish the cooking time 30 mins before you leave and then transport the bird while it rests?
